November...Welcome back Winter!
Lots of things happening in November.
Good afternoon everyone. I hope everyone is recovering from the Halloween festivities yesterday. It really was a fun day and it was nice to have some additional Mr. Schiller's running around. Halloween may just have become my favorite holiday!
How quickly we turn the page and keep marching forward. It's November and soon we'll be looking towards Thanksgiving and other fall fun. Speaking of fall fun, November typically isn't the most colorful month of the year, so to help get through the grey days ahead we are going to have a series of theme days. The list of dates and themes can be found below.
Topics below include:
Veteran's Day Assembly
MTSS information
Fire Drill
Winter expectations for recess
November Theme Days
Have a great weekend
SAVE THE DATE:
ASSEMBLY 11/11/19
8:15 in the Gym
- We will be celebrating Veteran's day with an assembly on the 11th in the gym.
MTSS - General Information
As you know, the first round of MTSS meetings will be held on November 6th in afternoon. We have had a very good response to the new format, and we have several meetings scheduled for the 6th.
The MTSS team this year includes Kate, Jamie, Lisa P, Michelle, Chris, and Jeff. The vision for the MTSS meetings is to "Efficiently and thoroughly monitor student progress through intervention results and data to meet the needs of tiered students and find a clear path to success."
If you have a meeting scheduled for this day, here are a few things to remember prior to your meeting.
1. MTSS meetings are intended to focus on your most intense needs.
2. Please submit your student data to Gabrielle ASAP, so that the team can study your students ahead of time and to prepare for the meetings.
3. Your data should include the following:
a. Interventions that have been done/ or are currently in place
b. Specific skills the student is working on
c. Baseline data
d. Duration of Intervention
e. Intensity of intervention
f. Outcomes
* MTSS forms can be found in Schoology. Illuminate can also be used to record data.
** Work samples do not need to be submitted to Gabrielle prior to the meeting, but can be brought to the meeting.
I am asking for your patience and cooperation as we begin this new support system. It is going to take time to work the bugs out, but we're committed to getting this right. I want to thank both the MTSS and ILT teams for all of their work to get this set up and off the ground. Again, it's going to be messy at the start, but we have the brooms to clean it up as we go.
11/6 - Enhanced Fire Drill
This is a reminder that we will have a fire drill on the 6th (weather permitting). This will be our first enhanced drill, meaning that one exit in the building will be selected to be closed. An alternate exit will need to be used during the drill.
Prior to the drill, I will make an announcement that we will be having the drill and at that time I will notify everyone which exit has been blocked. This is to simulate a real emergency and the communication from the main office. It will be important to hear which exit is closed, so that you can exit at the best/closest location for your class.
Recess: Winter expectations
Now that we're staring at winter weather, here are a few reminders/expectations for recess (am & Lunch).
1. We will make an attempt to be outside as much as possible during the winter months. We will not go outside if the air temperature is 20 degrees or lower, the wind-chill is 10 or below, or if the playground conditions deemed unsafe by myself and Rick. That may include ice, drifted snow, or another concern that impacts the safety of the kids and staff that would be outside. It is expected that IF you are planning on going outside during an AM recess, that these factors also be considered.
2. Snow is beautiful as it falls to the earth in gentle flakes, however it's not as wonderful flying though the air in a finely packed snowball. Please make sure to stress that snowballs are for at home.
3. Playing in the field and equipment is okay if...… you have the following. Boots, gloves, snow pants, and a winter coat and a hat. Anything less and you have to stick to the blacktop areas.
Lets make it a fun and safe winter.
