Gladiator Greatness
Junior Braden DeLamater and senior Anna Cate Melancon have been nominated for the Community LEADer Award which recognizes student-athletes "who demonstrate outstanding leadership qualities on and off the field or court by addressing issues, influencing change or new direction on their team or in the classroom or school." Sophomore Lily Sams has been nominated for the Akins Arena Most Versatile Player of the Year Award which honors students "who excel in multiple positions and/or multiple sports." Read more in the Athens Banner-Herald.
CCHS alumnus and former Georgia Secretary of State Brian Kemp will be sworn in as Georgia's new governor on January 14th. Learn about Kemp's time at Central in the Odyssey Media Group's article "Return of the Gladiator" and its accompanying video.
Freshman Isabella Miller is competing this year as the only female on the CCHS wrestling team. Read her story in the Odyssey Media Group's story "Giving 'em Hell."
On December 5th, Central students visited Fort Valley State University to explore life on an HBCU campus. The trip was sponsored by CCHS's Local School Governance Team and organized by College Adviser Brionna Johnson, the Gifted Minorities Achieving Club, Dr. Elijah Swift, Akua Nelson, and Paul Rambeau.
Junior Lucy Yeoman has been nominated for the Athens Banner-Herald's Fall Academic Athlete of the Year for excellence in the classroom and as a member of the school's swimming and cross country teams. Read more in Online Athens.
Junior Theron Camp has been nominated for the Drew Swan Sportsmanship Award. This award honors a student-athlete who displays "moral standards, goodness, and supportive nature." Read more in the Athens Banner-Herald.
Congratulations to the following Central student-athletes named to All-Area Teams in their respective sports: O'Brien Barnett, Tavis Elder, Quay Teasley, Walker Bradberry, and Daiquon Brown (football), Isaac Ward, Wayne Malcolm, and Rodney Wright (Honorable Mention in football), Anna Cate Melancon (Honorable Mention in softball), Samantha Brodrick, Lena Cook, Lucy Yeomans, Braden DeLamater, and Colby Meeks (cross country), Lilli Sams and McKinley Campbell (Honorable Mention in cross country).
CCHS won the Best Performing Unit - Marching Bands / Military Award at the 2018 Downtown Parade of Lights.
The JV Academic Team won the region tournament by defeating Morgan County, North Oconee, and defending champions Loganville. The Varsity Team beat Apalachee and North Oconee before placing second to Oconee.
The CCHS JROTC program was recognized as an Honor Unit with Distinction through the JROTC Program for Accreditation.

After-school tutoring is held every Tuesday from 3:45 to 5:15.

Saturday School
Saturday School will be held on February 9, March 2, April 13, April 20, and April 27 from 9 am to 12 pm. On each date, you will attend two sessions lasting an hour and twenty five minutes each. Bring your laptop, notebooks, and any work you need to complete.
