Dear Midland Families,
This week we have been meeting with students about the importance of BUS SAFETY. We have a few bus stops and bus routes which have had behaviors which are not appropriate and representative of Mustang behavior, which is SAFE, RESPONSIBLE, RESPECTFUL, AND PRODUCTIVE.
If your child rides a school bus, please talk with them about these specific bus rules:
1. Students will be safe at the bus stop with words and actions.
2. Students will remain seated at all times and not move seats during the ride.
3. Students will use a yellow (quiet inside) voice on the bus ride and a red (silent) voice at railroad crossings and at the bus stop.
4. Students will only use clean language (no swearing or name calling) on the bus.
5. Students will not climb over or under seats.
6. Students will follow the bus driver's directions the first time.
7. Students will walk in FRONT of the bus after getting off. (Students should never walk behind the bus!)
If you have a concern about your child's bus, I welcome your communication. Please call or email me at (253)298-4501 or pdawson@fpschools.org . We want to be sure all our students feel safe at the bus stops and the bus rides every day.
It's great to be a MUSTANG!

Identity Week 2—Last week we discussed the simple definition of Identity as “Who I am as a person”. Midland’s Mustangs are so thoughtful and bright. When posed with the discussion question (across 1st-5th)
“Why is it a good idea to think about and know our own identity?
Some of their wonderfully thoughtful responses were:
- When we know ourselves better, we know how to share ourselves with others.
- When I know myself, I know what I am good at and when I can help others.
- If you don’t start thinking about who you are right now, how will you be able to think about who you want to be in the future?
These are only a few—all classes had wonderful thoughts and discussions.
Mustangs are brilliant thinkers.
Our second question posed for discussion was “Why is it important to know and honor the identity of others?”
A few of the responses included:
- Everyone deserves to feel good about who they are.
- We can find out how we are the same and different and be friends.
- They will know we care about them if we listen to them.
I am always so humbled and proud of your children.
Self-Awareness—
1B—I can identify what strengths are, and my own strengths.
I can identify how I use my personal interests and my unique voice to engage with people in my school and community.
Midland is hosting a Parenting Workshop in October!
Sign Up for the Bus Bulletin
Would you like to know when your student’s bus is going to be late or what is happening?
Once you know your child's route, you should consider signing up for bus route notifications using Bus Bulletin. Bus Bulletin will send you text messages to your cell phone with real-time updates on your child's route. For instance, if your child's route is running late, Bus Bulletin will let you know.
How to sign-up to use Bus Bulletin:
- Log onto the website http://busbulletin.com/parents/ or click on the QR code and look to the right side of your screen. Click on “Sign In”, click on "Register Here," and answer the simple prompts. You will provide your name, your email address, a password, and select Franklin Pierce Schools. Then enter the code on the screen, accept the rules of use, and finally click on Submit.
- You will then be asked to select the route, which is written in code:
- The first two numbers are the ROUTE NUMBER, and the letters are the SCHOOL abbreviation:
- Preschool: HDS for Head Start and ELC
- Primary: BD, CA, CH, CO, ELM, HA, JS, MD
- Secondary: FMS, FPHS, KMS, WHS, GATES
- Example: 19MD is route 19, Midland Elementary School.
