This Is How We Lakeview

May Edition: Volume 2

Week are to our final week of the 2020-21 school year

Not sure how we are here already but this is the last week of the 2020-2021 school year. I would like to applaud the students and staff for their flexibility and adaptability this school year. We challenged everyone in ways that we could have never imagined. So take a moment to celebrate your student and thank the teachers for a job well done this year!

Friday is the last day of school and will be a 2 hour early release for the students. This means that Lakeview students will be finished at 12:10 pm on this day. Buses will be running but if you normally pick up your student after school, please be aware of this change and plan accordingly.

We have a lot of activities planned for the last few days of school. Invites went out for Academic Awards and Party on the Patio, GPA Certificates will be handed out on Tuesday, Kona Ice is here during the lunch periods on Monday (send your student with cash if they would like to make a purchase), and we are having a Pep Rally on Wednesday. Please see the articles below for more information.

Yearbook Distribution

If you ordered a yearbook, they will be distributed Monday during PAW time. VLA students will need to arrange a time to pick up their yearbook from the main office.

Extra yearbooks will be available starting on Tuesday morning in room 214 (Mrs. Schneider's room). Yearbooks are $35 and you need exact change or a check made out to PLSD. These will be sold until we run out.

Celebrating our Peer Collaborators

Every year, we have students who volunteer one period of the day to help out in the Students with Multiple Disabilities Classrooms. Today, the students celebrated their peer collaborators with a cookout and time to just hang out and say thanks. This is an amazing group of students and Lakeview is lucky to have them!

Kona Ice will be here Monday!

Lakeview Student Council is sponsoring the Kona Ice Truck as an end of the year activity for our students during their lunch periods on May 17th! They are only selling the Klassic ($4) and King sizes ($5). Kona Ice will not be doing pre-orders so students will need cash on this day. Please plan ahead so that your student can participate in this event.

Students to keep Chromebooks over the summer

Students in grades 3-11 will be keeping their current Chromebook over the summer. Current 8th graders will trade in their current Chromebook for a new model during the first few weeks of school in August. If you know that you are moving and will not be back in Pickerington next school year, please turn in your Chromebook to the media center on the last day of school.

Hotspots - All hotspots that were borrowed from PLSD MUST be returned to your student's media center by May 21st, 2021. (VLA students see below) Hotspots are deactivated over the summer months so that we can reimage and update them for the following school year. If you will need one for the 21-22 school year, you will need to fill out the agreement form and submit that to your student's media center once school begins in August.

VLA Hotspot Collection - We will be collecting any VLA Hotspots in a drive-through format in front of Diley Middle School from May 24 - May 28 from 9:00 AM to Noon and 1:00 - 3:00 PM.

Academic Awards Ceremony

We are doing something a little different for our end of year Academic Awards. All Honor Roll students will receive a certificate and a ticket for a treat during their PAW time. Team award and elective course winners will have a ceremony at the school on Tuesday, May 18th. Invitations went out today to these students. Because we are not allowing visitors into the building, we will be recording the Awards Ceremony and putting together a video that will go out in the last newsletter on May 21st.

Year End Medication Information

If your child has medication here at school, especially prescription medication, please make arrangements to pick up the medicine before the school year ends. We cannot send home medication with your child at the end of the school year.

Any medication that is not picked up from the clinic will be destroyed.

If your child will need prescription medication for the 2021-2022 school year, please feel free to pick up a "Request for Administration of Medication by School Personnel" form at the office or download from the PLSD website @

The Community Corner

Recent Updates

  • Our staff book studies are still going strong, and we’re beginning to take a look at what ideas from the books we can discuss further with the goal of turning them into action steps for our building next year. Our final book study meeting will be Tuesday, May 18th, with all book study groups combined, so we can share what we have learned about and discuss planning for next year.
  • In previous Community Corners, we shared what books our staff was reading for the book study. If you decided to read one of those books, too, we’d love to know! Feel free to use the Family Feedback Form to share that with us and anything that stuck out to you. We will add those ideas to our discussion for the final meeting.

  • As we get close to wrapping up the year, please feel free to use the Family Feedback Form to share with us any ideas/supports that you feel would add to our work to celebrate and support each and every one of our students. Whether you have ideas for Change Chat topics, Lakeview Leadership Team initiatives, community supports and/or resources, etc., we’d love to hear your ideas.

  • Has your student done something awesome or noteworthy? Do you want to celebrate them and their accomplishment? In future Community Corners, we hope to highlight more of our students through the Student Spotlight feature. We have updated the Family Feedback Form to include an area where you can share the details that you want to highlight about your student. Check it out!

With testing and getting adjusted to all our hybrid students transitioning back to school full time, we decided to use google forms so students could answer evolv questions in a survey format. This allowed for a lot more responses (290!). You may notice that some of these questions are repeated from the other updates, but that is because we wanted to give all students an opportunity to provide their input since we were able to reach more students with the survey. We are so proud of all the voices that have been shared!

Please see the Parent Shareout below to see what our students are saying.

Updates from the Family Feedback Form

We did not receive any new feedback since the most recent newsletter.

The Lakeview Family Feedback Form

This form will be linked in each Community Corner update, allowing families to offer feedback to the counseling and administrative team regarding social justice, mental health, academic support, friendships/relationships, etc. Counselors and administrators will review the feedback on a weekly basis and send out any updates to concerns/questions in the next Community Corner update.
