OLVCS Updates
November 20,2020
Mission Accomplished!
All students in grades Kindergarten through 8th are now one-to-one with a device. Students in grades K - 2 and 8 benefit from iPads, while students in grades 3 – 7 are now using Chromebooks. Thank you again for all of the donations and generosity to make this happen. It is wonderful to see how daily classroom learning has already been enhanced with interactive lessons with our new technology.
At OLVCS, we know that with technology comes responsibility. So, our teachers will be continuing to incorporate discussions regarding the of the responsibilities and challenges of digital citizenship. Lessons will focus on online safety, privacy, and data sharing. We hope you will join with us in reinforcing moderation in device use and good online behavior in your student.
Finally, below you will information about our All School Christmas Toy Drive. These toys will be given to the Saint Vincent de Paul Thrift Store for their Christmas Doll and Toy Sale. Sale from these toys will help support the work of this wonderful Catholic service organization that supports families in our area.

Thanksgiving Break Reminder
There is no school from Wednesday, November 25 through Friday, November 27, 2020, in celebration of Thanksgiving. School resumes on Monday, November 30th.
Did you know that it was President Lincoln who declared Thanksgiving a national holiday in 1863--in the midst of the US Civil War? To read up on this and other interesting facts about Thanksgiving, check out https://www.history.com/topics/thanksgiving/history-of-thanksgiving
Important Information for Families With Upcoming Travel Plans
As you are well aware, the Pennsylvania Department of Health has issued guidelines for those who plan to travel during the holiday season. The following is clarification of these guidelines by the the Diocese of Altoona-Johnstown and the Department of Health, as they relate to OLVCS students, staff, faculty, and administration:
Persons associated with Our Lady of Victory Catholic School, such as employees, volunteers, students, or third-party agency employees who travel outside PA are required to quarantine for 14 days from the day they return to PA ,before they can return to OLVCS. Alternatively, the person may choose to be tested for COVID-19 within 72 hours of their return to PA and if a negative test result is documented, they may return to activities at OLVCS. In the case of a third-party agency employee, it is the responsibility of agency to inform OLVCS that their employee complied with this directive.
Please contact the school office with any questions.
Seeking New Dolls and Toys for Sale Benefitting Saint Vincent de Paul Society
OLVCS is supporting the work of the Saint Vincent de Paul Society by collecting NEW toys for sale at their store as part of the Christmas Doll and Toy Sale. The proceeds from the sale support the valuable work that the Saint Vincent de Paul Society does in our community.
OLVCS families can donate one NEW doll or toy to this drive--but feel free to donate more. Students should bring the dolls and toys to the school office between November 23 and December 11, 2020. A school volunteer will bring the toys and dolls to the SVdP store in Bellefonte. The toys will be “quarantined” as guidelines suggest before they are set out for the sale.
Thank you in advance for your generosity!

Youth Protections Training: Well Worth The Effort
The Diocese requires that all adults who wish to volunteer at OLVCS complete the required application forms, online trainings, and submit required clearances. This process can take a few weeks to complete, so it is important start the process soon. But, it is well worth it. With this completed you can volunteer at OLVCS, which is a great way to give back...and see your child in "action." Once you complete your training, contact your student's teacher about ways that you can help. Questions? Contact OLV's new coordinator, Mrs. Sandra Lema, at youthprotection@olvcs.org.

OLV Parish Happenings
Donations Being Collected Now For OLV Parish Giving Tree
OLV parish will continue to help individuals and families in our community through the Parish Christmas Giving Tree--albeit a bit differently. This year, instead of selecting actual ornaments from a tree and purchasing a gift, OLV parish will be collecting monetary donations to be used to help purchase presents for clients of agencies such as Catholic Charities, Strawberry Fields, and Housing Transitions, The Arc of Centre Country, Out of the Cold Homeless Shelter and Centre County COVID-19 Community Response (4CR).
Donations can be sent to the parish office (840 Westerly Parkway, State College, PA 16801) or given in the collection basket. Be sure to write "Parish Giving Tree" on the envelope enclosing your donation or on your check's memo line so that it may properly recorded. Questions may be directed to Mrs. Mary Hershey at 814-441-2511
