Weeks of September 19th-30th

Off to a Great Start!

I am truly thankful and in awe for how quickly our staff and students have settled into a positive start. There will be several important topics covered in this weeks addition of Hashtag, so thanks for your attention.

Educator Effectiveness Update

Tis the Season...to start thinking about our Educator Effectiveness goals. All forms have been uploaded into mylearningplan for completion. Again this year, I would like to suggest writing your SLO (Student Learning Goal) based on Literacy. You are welcome to write an individual or a team goal. For the PPG (Professional Practice Goal) I would recommend that you write a goal around our focus of Personalized Learning, specifically with UDL (Universal Design for Learning). Please see me for any questions you may have. I will also be sharing some samples at an upcoming staff meeting.

Also, in order to accomplish our informal and formal observations, I will be starting my rounds for informal observations starting this week. The hint will be: IF I enter your classroom with my laptop, I will complete an informal observation. I am always encouraged by seeing what is happening in your classrooms.

Data Collection

Thank you to all of you who have shared your google data grid. This information will be used for inputting student data into our all school data. When completing your grids, please make sure to include the following:

  • Please include RR, MAP and PALS data in your grids
  • Color code the data to reflect on, above, below and targeted. The colors truly give you the best picture of tracking your students growth or decline. Please let me know if you need the cut off chart for the color coding.
  • Also, please list the percentage of students who have met their targeted yearly growth on the bottom of your shared google grid.
  • One change for the end of the year - Each teacher will turn in one hard copy of their data grid at the end of the year. This will assist us in the process of doing our data dig and to make sure we are able to accurately compile all data.

Literacy Update - Fall Into Reading Night

Our BLT (Building Literacy Team) has been busy planing our upcoming Fall Into Reading Night. On Thursday, October 6th we will host this very special Family literacy event. Our HPSA (Howard Parent School Association) will be again sponsoring a spaghetti dinner for those attending the event. Families will be asked to bring in an item to share such as bread, salad, or dessert based on the alphabet. The timeline of the event are listed below - notice the changes:

  • 5-5:45 dinner in the commons
  • 6:00 Program Kick off in the Gym - Readers Theater, Parent Education Video, Puppet show and info from Weyers Hilliard Librarian Sue (The is an all star line up!)
  • 6:20-6:55 Family Events:
  1. Kindergarten Wing - book mark maker, comfy spots to kids
  2. Lobby - book selection by grade level tables
  3. LIbrary - tumblebug books and comfy reading for families
  4. Third Grade Area - Kahoot with technology
  5. A few other surprises, too!
  • New this year, teachers will not be doing individual presentations in their classrooms. We are trying to create an environment that helps families stay together and have some fun with Reading!
  • The theme for the night is Camp out with Books - camping and jammies!
