eLearning Update for Sprague Students
Dear D103 Families,
On Monday you will receive information on how D103 eLearning will take place between your child and his/her teacher(s). Included in that communication will be a Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) document.
Left Something at School?
For those students who were absent today, March 13, or left something at school (medication, iPad, musical instrument, etc.), the schools will be open from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Friday.
We ask that you continue to maintain social distance, refrain from congregating, only come into the school building if you must, and please be mindful of the time you are spending there.
To help support our upcoming eLearning needs, students in grades 1 and 2 are bringing home their iPad and a charger. All first- and second-grade students are expected to bring their iPad and charger back when they return to school. For our youngest students, this is one of the first times they will bring their devices home for an extended amount of time. We want to share some best practice strategies for parents on how to help your child manage their device at home.
iPad Best Practices (for Grades 1-8)
As you set up for eLearning at home, the following are some iPad best practices in managing the devices.
iPad Expectations - The iPad is your child’s learning device, not a play device. Parents are encouraged to supervise access to the device and ensure it is being used appropriately at all times.
Internet Filtering at Home - The web content on your child’s device is being filtered at home, the same way the District filters web content at school. Students are not permitted to try and change or adjust how the web content on their device is being filtered.
iPad Supervision - Parents are strongly encouraged to actively monitor their child’s iPad use. Ask your child to show you what they are working on specifically. Set time limits on your child’s use of the device. Work alongside your child as they complete their learning activities if possible.
iPad Access - Monitor access to your child’s devices. Have your child give you their device every evening, and give it back to them when you are ready.
iPad Management - Please help your child treat the iPad respectfully. iPads should not be used near liquid, small particles (like sand or dirt), or near food. iPads should be cleaned using a soft, damp cloth. Please avoid excessively spraying cleaners or other harsh chemicals on the device.
Sincerely,
RJ Bialk, Director of Technology and Assessment
