Week of October 8
Student Led Conferences
- Students are going to be working hard this week to prepare for conferences next week. Attendance is going to be extra important as we prepare for students to share their goals and successes so far in third grade.
- If you have not done so already, please make sure to sign up for conferences using this link. Reminder-Please make sure to pick a time where you and your child can come in together. If there is not a time on the list that works for you, email me separately and we can set up a different time.

Please make sure to check your child's gray folder for a blue paper with info from our wonderful room parent, Cindy Smith!!
If you have any box tops at home please send them in! We collect box tops in the classroom all year long!
WHAT'S HAPPENING IN THE CLASSROOM??
- Homework: Students need to get their weekly reflection signed and complete their homework bingo sheet and math problem on the back side (salmon colored paper). Please have your child return their gray folder with their completed homework sheet by next Friday 10/12.
- Innovation: Week 5 of innovation block #1. Our class will be going to the innovation lab and they will be working on their digital portfolios and learning about new technology apps with Mrs. Dixon.
- Language Arts -We will be moving into our last week of our second ELA unit, Ways Characters Shape Stories. The essential question we will continue to explore is: How do our actions influence our lives? This week students will read Snow White: A Russian Folktale. Reading skills we will be practicing include key events and summarizing, analyzing how illustrations convey mood and character, analyzing characters and comparing and contrasting characters in different stories.
- Math -UNIT 2!!! Here is the parent letter with lots of great information about what students will be learning in this unit. We will focus on the concepts of multiplication this week and understanding that multiplication means Equal Groups of.
- Writing -Students will write an opinion paragraph explaining if they would recommend the story Snow White: A Russian Folktale to a friend or not.
- Spelling- Students will engage with compound words. We will look at different compound words and break them apart to understand their meanings. They will complete a variety of activities with practicing and identifying compound words in a variety of texts.
- Vocabulary- Students will be able to use reference materials to build their vocabulary. They will show their understanding of the words by using them in a sentence during collaborative conversations and in their writing.
- 7 Habits - Habit 7: Sharpen the Saw. Our class will find time to sharpen the saw and understand why it's important to have balance in our lives. I would love for students to share how they sharpen the saw at home!!
