St. Lawrence Every Friday Note
January 21, 2022
Weekly Update
Next Tuesday (1/25) is the feast day of the conversion of St. Paul. The life of Paul reminds us of several important things on our own walks with Christ. If you did not know, at one point in his life, Paul persecuted Christians. He even participated in the stoning of Stephen as is told in the book of Acts. However, on the road to Damascus he had an encounter with Jesus. He described this revelation of Jesus as a miracle and almost supernatural. Through this, we can see how God reveals himself to us. God does not just choose his biggest supporters. Paul is an example of how God can turn even the most doubting human into a faithful follower. Paul also serves as an example to us, that once we have learned, witnessed and experienced Jesus, we should not hold on to that information. We are to share our love and the good news of Jesus to everyone.
I often find myself thinking about what Paul said in Romans, "For what I want to do I do not do, but what I hate I do." I am sure many feel this way. It is easy to want to do what is right, but it is difficult to always end up doing it.
Announcements
- One of the biggest challenges we are facing at our school is staffing in the event of teacher(s) illness. I have had some offers from parents to volunteer and I am so grateful for this. If you have time and are willing to volunteer to help in some classrooms, we would certainly welcome you. Volunteers must be Safe Parish certified. If you have not completed the online training, but are interested, please contact me and I will help you.
- Our teachers and staff are second to none. They have worked tirelessly. They fill in whenever and where ever they are needed. They give up prep times to help cover classes, which in turn means more work for them to do at home at night. Please take the time to express your appreciation for all of their hard work.
- Congratulations to our Pre-K program which secured a grant for $104,000. This will go a long way in helping renovate some of the areas that our Pre-K utilizes.
- Thanks again to all of you for all of your support in what is happening at St. Lawrence. Your children make a huge difference in all of our lives and we are so blessed, fortunate, and thankful that you have chosen us to help you teach your children.

Amendments to the Family Handbook
Reminder About Food and Snacks
1. It goes against the school wellness policy.
2. As the weather has gotten colder and students store food in their locker, it attracts mice and other critters that are certainly not welcome, which creates health and cleanliness issues inside the school.
3. Food and snacks during class create major distractions at times to the learning environment.
I do not believe that the majority of food brought into the school is done with their parent's knowledge and consent, but we would appreciate your support in helping to prevent this practice.
PFO Pacer Night
PFO has organized a school night fundraiser with the Pacers. The packets went home last week for tickets. The game night is Wednesday, Feb. 16th vs. the Washington Wizards.
Attendance/Mass Policy
A note to this. If you are late arriving on a Wednesday or Friday, which are our scheduled school mass days, please take your child to the church prior to 9:15 am. Mass is a special opportunity to spend time twice a week with Jesus in worship. It is a part of our school day and one of the truly special opportunities that students enrolled in a Catholic school get to participate in that they would not be able to otherwise. This is considered part of our curriculum. Please make every effort to ensure that your child is in school to be able to be a part of this time.
Covid 19 Updates
For the week of January 15-21:
Confirmed Positive Results: 3
Quarantined students: 3
The governor passed an executive order stating that close contacts who have been exposed to a positive Covid-19 case at school will only need to quarantine if they are experiencing symptoms.
School Lunch Box
School meal programs nationwide are experiencing many of the same supply chain issues that have impacted restaurants and grocery stores throughout the pandemic. Our school nutrition team is committed to ensuring students have access to healthy meals each school day. Just as families had to make substitutions on grocery lists last year, St. Lawrence may have to make some last-minute changes to our regular menus, based on availability. We hope parents and students will be patient as we sort through these supply chain issues, particularly with breakfast items such as cereal. PBJ Uncrustables are not available either. The upside? Ingredients for our many scratch prepared foods are more readily available and we've been trying new recipes weekly. We remain committed to providing nutritious and delicious meals so that students are ready to learn!
