January 14, 2021

Parents,

I want to thank you for hanging in there with the distance learning. I know it is a very difficult situation for families. The health and safety of our children has to remain a priority. It has been announced that we will return to the hybrid model on Tuesday, January 19. Monday, January 18 is Martin Luther King Jr. day which is a yearly holiday. There is no school for students or staff.

The end of the 2nd quarter and 1st semester is January 28. It is important that your child works to complete unfinished distance learning work or virtual learning work. You will have to contact the teacher to ask her or him to check it because s(he) wouldn't know to look for it. Check with the teacher if you have questions or need help.

For those of you who are changing instructional models from the Virtual to the Brick and Mortar program or the Brick and Mortar program to the Virtual program, you will be contacted by January 22. We are working on assigning teachers, hybrid cohorts (A or B), bus transportation and more.

Remember that you can request books from our library here. We can contact you and have them ready for pick-up in the front office.

Our guidance team has a Counselor's Corner they want you to visit. Their PDE Parent Blog has updated information about Erin's Law which is a state required sexual abuse prevention program. The counselors have chosen materials that are age appropriate and want you to know about it so you can ask questions or share concerns.

Since we are not able to host family nights this year, we have been working hard to put resources from those nights into digital format. This month's "family night" presentation is Technology and Anti-Bullying. It is a very important topic... especially since our children are using apps on the iPhone and iPad the we are not familiar with because we didn't have them as kids. Cyberbullying is a very real thing. As are online predators. It is important to monitor your child's digital activity often. I hope you will take time to view this.

Our parking lot and drive path is complete. We have a few more surprises on the horizon. We are growing PDE into a first class school.

If you have any questions or concerns please feel free to email or call. The school number is 843-397-2579. We will work with you anyway we can to help you and your child through this unusual and unexpected school year.

Blessings and Good Health,
