Swimming Makes a Splash at State

Samuel Clemens sent its first swimmers to the UIL State Swimming & Diving Championships since 2013. The swimmers qualified in both individual and team/relay events from the highly-competitive Region VII-6A. Junior Conley Savage, for example, missed qualifying for the 200 individual medley (IM) by 0.13 seconds. Clemens’s first male diver, Joran Walker, earned an impressive tenth place.

For her individual event at state, senior Aubrey Mai raced her heart out in the 50-yard freestyle, finishing 19th in the state with a time of 24.38. Aubrey also qualified and swam on the girls’ 4x100-yard freestyle relay team with fellow senior Alyse Voos and sophomores Jessi Dziergowsk and Emily Bauer.

We are extremely proud of the aquatics program and how it’s grown since its inception in 2004. Congratulations to all swimmers, and Coach Cuda and Coach Bragg on developing Samuel Clemens Aquatics into a first-class swim team.

Wrestler Medals at State

Junior Jackson Macias placed 5th at the UIL State Championship. Jackson had a total of six hard-fought matches scoring four wins and two losses. His match for fifth place was against the same wrestler to whom he lost his first match, but Jackson came out ahead for their second encounter. Congratulations to Jackson on this awesome accomplishment! We are also beyond proud of sophomore Deshawn Cosby for qualifying to compete at the state tournament. A huge thanks to Coach Rogers and Coach Wallace for going above and beyond to prepare our Buffs!

Bowling Finishes 2nd in Prestigious Tournament

Samuel Clemens Boys Varsity Bowling took 2nd place at the 9th Annual Kat Cup in Cut and Shoot, Texas in mid-February. This was an invitational tournament starting with 18 of the best boys teams in Texas.
