REMINDER ON STAAR TESTING AND HOUSE BILL 4545
This week and next, elementary and middle school students across the district are completing state-required STAAR testing. As a reminder, Texas House Bill 4545, which was passed in the 87th Regular Legislative Session, requires school districts to complete accelerated instruction practices (tutoring) based on students’ performance on the STAAR test. DSISD wants to make sure our parents understand that interventions are now required for students who neither pass nor complete the STAAR tests.
HB 4545 requires all public school districts in Texas to provide 30 hours of tutoring, or supplemental accelerated instruction, to students in each STAAR-tested subject where they did not perform satisfactorily. Under the law, students who do not test are considered students who have not passed, and schools are required to create an accelerated instruction plan for each of those students. Regardless of a student’s performance in class or other measures, if a student does not complete their STAAR test, they will be required to complete 30 hours of tutoring in each tested subject by the end of the subsequent school year.
Dripping Springs ISD is asking parents to please ensure their students are present on STAAR testing days. STAAR tests will be administered on make-up days to any students absent on the scheduled testing days.
