Bonet Gone Raw
by Christa Campbell
Children of the Shadows - June to July 2012
Bonet had taken these photos to bring people to understand the difficulties going on in Johannesburg. Forced immigrants were brought to the slum buildings in this area, and the life is a dangerous struggle. Creating this atmosphere of “street life” makes the kids grow up way too fast. Although it may sound depressing, and it is, friendships and loyalties are made within.
Child mortality in Chad
-took photos for 8 days
One in five children will die before their fifth birthday in Chad. Bonet has captured the delicacy and horrors of child mortality. Chad has an overpopulation and refugees. Children under the age of 14 may have HIV/AIDS already due to the lack of health care.
Honduras - HIV&AIDS
HIV and AIDS is the second highest death in Honduras. This leads to several children either being homeless or living with other family members who are unable to give quality care. Homosexual and transsexual are usually victims due to harassment of church, political, police, and family. These infections are the leading cause of death of women.
