3 urban structure demonstrate cities in rings, wedges, nodes
Concentric zone model
The concentric zone model was created in 1923 by sociologist E. W. Burgess, a city grows outward from a central area in a series of 5 concentric rings like the growth of a tree.
Sector model
The sector model was created in 1939 by land economist Homer Hoyt, said the city develops in a series of sectors. As a city grows, activities expand outward in a wedge, or sector, from the center.
Multiple Nuclei Model
Includes more than one center in the city
