Lactobacillus Acidophilus Helps Us!
By: Kaitlyn Butler and Carley Wallace
What is Lactobacillus Acidophilus?
It is a microorganism that lives in our large intestine and helps us digest some dairy foods, lowers our cholesterol level, and can lower cardiovascular and coronary disease in some people. Studies have shown it may help reduce the risk for colon cancer, can prevent you from getting diarrhea and indigestion, and can prevent you from getting yeast disease. Yeast disease is a painful mouth condition that causes thrush in the human mouth. Lactobacillus Acidophilus also helps strengthen the immune system in humans and animals.
Whenever a cell is killed in your immune gastrointestinal system, and Acidophilus will replace to help support your immune system. When it deals with plants, fungi, or protistas it adheres itself to cell walls it creates more of an acidic environment, which will kill off many of the bad bacteria. Doing this, it will also help supply vitamin K to us. This helps prevent blood disease.
Some of its structures include, a cell wall, a cytoplasmic membrane, a nucleoid, cytoplasm, ribosomes, and a flagella. It is found in small chains of varying length. It can form coccobacillary under certain conditions.
It reproduces by binary fission. Binary fission is when the bacteria doubles its contents and divides into two. It reproduces asexually. It halts the reproduction of harmful bacteria.

No microorganisms?
If we did away with every microorganism it would be bad, because microorganisms live in our intestine and help digest our food. If we did not have these microorganisms our body would not get nutrients and we would die. Lactobacillus Acidophilus is just one of the many helpful microorganisms that help us. Even though there are also harmful microorganisms like salmonella that cause serious infections there are also many helpful microorganisms like streptomyces. The good microorganisms outweigh the bad. We shoud not get rid of every microorganism, because without the good microorganisms we would die.
