Last chance to join the Fall Kindness Krew!
Calling 4th- & 5th-grade students! There are still a few spaces open in the Fall Kindness Krew! In this after-school club, students will spread kindness around the school by helping teachers with various classroom projects and assisting the Helping Hands committee when needed. Krew members will also come up with their own ideas for spreading kindness around Wescott.
The club will meet on Monday from 3:20 to 4:20 p.m. beginning October 2, running eight weeks through December 4. (No meeting on October 23 or 30.)
Parents will be required to arrange transportation of their children from school grounds. Since crossing guards are not on duty, any student who walks home needs parental permission.
Click the button below to join. Please note, completing the form does not guarantee admission. Mrs. J will contact you if your student is in the club. Contact Mrs. Janavicius with questions: mjanavicius@district30.org
Parent-Teacher Conference signup starts Oct. 4
WHEN ARE CONFERENCES? This fall, we will again offer parents live, online interactions with our teachers during Parent-Teacher Conferences on Wednesday, October 18 (4:30-8:00 p.m.) and Thursday, October 19 (12:00-8:00 p.m.). Conferences are one of the most valuable tools we have to foster our strong partnerships between home and school. Please disregard any wording on Meet The Teacher platform that states In-Person conferences. This fall’s conferences, we will continue to use Zoom and a Zoom Directory will be shared with you closer to the start of conferences.
WHEN DOES REGISTRATION START? Conference registration will open on Wednesday, October 4, at 6:00 a.m. and will continue through Thursday, October 14 at 3:00 p.m.
HOW DO I REGISTER? Conference scheduler login information will be sent to the primary contact email for your student, along with step-by-step instructions for registering. Please keep an eye open for this information. Registration codes and directions will be available to you in the Parent Portal (on the form marked "Student Information for the 2023-24 School Year"), at 9 a.m. on Wednesday, September 27.
WHAT SHOULD I EXPECT? During conferences, your classroom teacher will discuss academic and social-emotional goals, discuss how the learning experience is progressing at school and at home, and share details about the classroom community with you. This is a collaborative meeting between families and teachers when we can answer your questions. We are so proud of our students and their strong start. Thank you so much for your ongoing support and partnership.
FINAL REMINDER - Health forms due Oct. 15
District 30 has been reviewing the health records of each of our students in order to comply with the State of Illinois law and to raise the immunization levels for preventable diseases.
Every Wescott student entering preschool, kindergarten or new to District 30 must have a complete health record which includes exact immunization dates as of October 15. All forms are available on the District 30website.
If you have not done so already, please submit your student's health form to the front desk at Wescott.
Please contact the Health Office at 847-400-8760 if you have questions.
D30 update from Superintendent Dr. Tammaru
Hispanic Heritage Month at Wescott
As Hispanic Heritage Month continues, we are highlighting some terrific learning happening throughout the school! Mrs. Murnick's 5th-graders read "Separate is Never Equal: Sylvia Mendez and Her Family's Fight for Desegregation" by Duncan Tonatiuh. The book details how seven years before Brown v. Board of Education, the Mendez family fought to end segregation in California schools. And Mrs. Choi read 'Mango, Abuela and Me" by Meg Medina to her 4th-graders. In the story, when a little girl's far-away grandmother comes to stay, love and patience transcend language.

Halloween at Wescott
Halloween parade
We are thrilled to be hosting this year’s Halloween Parade. The parade will kick off at 2:00 p.m. on October 31. More details to follow.
Costumes
As you plan your child’s Halloween costume this year, please keep in mind that your child will be wearing their costume all day at school. Children will not be changing into their costumes during the day. Find a costume that your child can wear comfortably during the school day and one that is appropriate for school. If your child is going to wear makeup as part of his/her costume, please be sure it is put on at home. The children can wear their makeup to school but won’t be able to apply any makeup, hair color, spray, etc. at school.
As a general rule, costumes that are gory, bloody, violent in nature or overly frightening are not permitted at school. Be cognizant of any group costumes to be inclusive of students. Additionally, weapons, even toy ones, are not allowed at school. Please also avoid masks that limit vision or costumes that interfere with ease of movement, since the students will be wearing their costume during the school day and parading outside. Take this opportunity to be creative and have fun with your child as you think about costume ideas.

Make a difference
The Wescott Helping Hands Committee is collecting pop tabs to donate to the Ronald McDonald House. The pop tabs will be recycled and the money is used to help support the families that stay there. Students can bring their pop tabs to their teachers for collection. Classes are collecting pop tabs all year long!
Lost & Found
Please, remember to check the Lost & Found bin for any missing items. The bin is located in the vestibule, under the table.
