Charger Chronicle

August 10, 2023

It is hard to believe we are a week away from the school year starting. We are excited for what this year will bring. We have some fun activities planned for the first few days of school to welcome our new students and our students that are continuing with us for a second year. We are planning an assembly for our students to review some important information and make them feel ready to take on the new school year.

Here is a link to the Plum Grove Bell Schedule as a reference. Students will use this bell schedule and their own schedule to move through their classes each day. Teachers will be taking attendance for classes at the beginning of the school day, and for each class period. It is important that students are on time and ready for learning for each of their classes.

During the first quarter we will have lunch tables assigned by homeroom. This will allow our lunch room supervisors to build relationships with students, ensure safety and help students acclimate to their lunch hour schedule. Students have the ability to purchase a lunch or bring their own lunch. For specific information in regards to our nutritional services please click this link.

Just a reminder that every Friday students are released at 1:25 pm. Every school in the district leaves earlier on Fridays.

Students will have lockers that will be assigned to them the first day of school. The teachers will work with the students in learning their combination locks. The lockers are located near their homeroom class, which is their first period class.

The district has a parent handbook, that is a great resource for our families. This handbook provides parents with several answers to questions that have been brought up about different procedures, polices and protocols district-wide.

Our Walk Your Schedule is schedule for August 14th @ 12:00 and will end at 12:45. Due to the construction parking will be very tight. We are encouraging families to carpool if possible. We are also offering an option to shuttle parents from St. Colette's. St. Collette's is located 3900 Meadow Drive in Rolling Meadows. The district will have buses available to shuttle parents to Plum Grove beginning at 11:45 and will provide shuttles to return families to St. Collette's. They will have a few runs to PGJH if needed. There are also a few spots available at the former firehouse on Plum Grove that is next to the school. We know that the parking situation isn't ideal and we appreciate your understanding during this construction phase.
Big picture

We want to ensure a safe arrival and dismissal for all of our students at Plum Grove. Doors will open at 7:20 for students to enter the building. Seventh grade students will enter through Door 1 and eighth grade students will enter through Door 2. Please note, that students will not be able to enter the school prior unless they are part of before school activity.

Students that take a school bus to school will be dropped off in the main parking lot. They will also be picked up from the same location at the end of the day. It is extremely important that students know their bus route numbers so they can find their bus at the end of the day in the parking lot.

As you pull into the parking lot please watch for any directional signs. If you enter from Old Plum Grove Road you may only turn right when entering the parking lot to avoid our bus traffic. Please follow the flow of traffic for everyone's safety.

*Your child MUST have a current physical on file in our office in order to tryout/participate in a sport.

If a student is cut from a fall sport they can still participate in Cross Country following tryouts.

Our PTSA is looking forward to a great school year and are excited to partner with our school community. We are having our first PTSA Welcoming Meeting on September 7th at 7:00 after our Parent Orientation in the library. This will take place following our Parent Orientation that takes place at 6:00 p.m. This will be an opportunity for parents to connect with each other, share ideas with our board, and find out areas where they can volunteer. One area that is still in need of a volunteer is within the office of PTSA Vice-President.

It is extremely helpful if students know their street names as the routes are based on their street names.
