Excellent learning moments happening everywhere!
Fall Festival is Friday Night!
Homecoming Participation
Special thanks to The Roche Family for their work on Elm Street's float for the NHS Homecoming Parade. If you haven't seen it yet, be sure to check out the photos - you'll surely be impressed!
I am appreciative of all those who came out to walk with us in the parade last week. Sometimes it felt more like a sprint, but it was great fun to spend the time together. Thank you to all who cheered for us from the sidelines as well.
Thank you, Elm Street Student Council Members, for creating posters of some favorite Newnan Traditions for the parade. It was great to see some of our parade walkers create their own to bring as well.
Our students also enjoyed a quick Pep Rally on Wednesday led by some of our Newnan High Cheerleaders, Band Members, and Football Players. What a great way to help us all feel pumped with community pride.
Thank you again to all who lead the way, as well as all participants.

Bus Driver Appreciation Day and Bus Safety Week
To celebrate, we hope all Elm Street students and parents will take a moment to write a quick note of thanks to the bus driver. We appreciate the work our drivers do each day, and Bus Driver Appreciation Day is a perfect time to let them know.
The week of October 22 is also Bus Safety Week in Georgia. Elm Street students all learned about school bus safety at the start of the school year through lessons with Coach Baker and Mr. Tate. But, this week is an excellent time for a quick refresher of the importance of bus safety. We expect our students to be respectful, responsible, and safe while riding the school bus and while loading, unloading, and waiting at school bus stops.
Below is an important graphic illustrating areas to use extra caution around the school bus. Please take a look at it and discuss it with your child to help reinforce bus safety.

Respectful, Responsible, Safe
We expect all Elm Street Eagles to be....
Respectful
Responsible
Safe
Earlier this year, we spent time teaching and learning what is expected in different areas of our campus, including hallways, cafeteria, restrooms, school bus, playground, etc. Then we put our learning into action! We continue to reteach as needed, but we are closely focused on recognizing positive behaviors through dojo points, ticket drawings, classroom recognitions and school-wide celebrations. Most recently we held Sunshine Breaks with students to celebrate great excellence in displaying these traits! Below are some photos from dojo ticket drawing prizes or our celebratory Sunshine Breaks.
Red Ribbon Days
Elm Street students and staff know the importance of keeping our bodies drug free. We celebrate and promote drug free choices each year through Red Ribbon Days. Join Elm Street in celebrating Red Ribbon Days on October 29, 30, and 31.

Tuesday: "Put a Cap on Drugs"

Operation Gratitude
K-Kids will collect leftover candy donations November 1 - 6. K-Kids and Ms. Ewing will share some information with families regarding some do's and don'ts of candy donations, but this is completely free and voluntary for any interested families. Families who would like to donate their extra candy will bag it, bring it in, and place it in a donation box at school. K Kids and Ms. Ewing will work together to transport our candy donations to a designated drop off location. You can read more about this organization here:
https://www.operationgratitude.com/express-your-thanks/halloween-candy For now, just mark your calendar and know that Elm Street K-Kids and Operation Gratitude will help find a good use for any extra candy following Halloween.

Top TEN (Traits Eagles Need)
Each month during the school year, Elm Street focuses on a specific character trait as part of our Top TEN (Traits Eagles Need).
October Trait
Initiative - The act of taking the first step
November Trait
Loyalty - Being true to your friends, family, and school
Each classroom is represented by an Eagle of the Month, a student who regularly displays the character trait for the month in his or her interactions with others. Eagles are featured on the morning news broadcast, ESN (Elm Street News) during a viewing celebration for students and parents held on the last Friday of the month.
October's Eagle of the Month filming will take place with students at 7:35 a.m. on Thursday, October 25 in the Media Center. Families of recognized students are invited to join us on Friday, October 26 at 7:45 a.m. for the Eagle of the Month ESN Watch Party!
Students, we are on the lookout for your initiative and loyalty!
Report Cards - Celebrate and Set Goals
Report Cards issued today, Monday, October 15. Be sure you check your child's report card. We encourage you to celebrate your child's growth and achievement. This is also a natural time to set goals for continued growth and improvement.
Did you know there are materials in our Parent Resource Center to help you support your child's development of key reading or math skills? The center is located in the foyer by Mrs. Pope's office and materials are free for any parents or students to take home to borrow.
We are your partners in learning. Please call us to conference anytime you have any questions or concerns about your child's progress. Every learner matters!
