WLWV School Board Briefs
West Linn-Wilsonville School District
The West Linn-Wilsonville School Board held a regular meeting Monday, Sept. 11. The following are select highlights from that meeting.
Board Introduces 2017-18 High School Reporters
The Sept. 11 meeting kicked off with an introduction from students from all three WLWV high schools. Art Tech High School Principal Saskia Dresler introduced senior Kaya Williams, who informed the Board of the many events Art Tech has planned for the beginning of the school year. She said her classmates were particularly looking forward to this year's Rock Band class, a wellness class partnership with Wilsonville's Edge Family Fitness, and the continued Automative Technology class with Wilsonville's World of Speed.
West Linn High School Principal Kevin Mills, meanwhile, introduced senior Shay Hicks to the Board, who spoke about the many efforts her school is making to both build an inclusive culture and promote school spirit. She also noted fundraising efforts the Associated Student Body has spearheaded to raise money for Hurricane Irma relief and recent flooding in Houston, Texas.
Wilsonville High School Assistant Principal Kathy Gregg then introduced Wilsonville senior Jessica Classen as Wilsonville High School's Board representative for the 2017-18 school year. She noted that WHS sports teams are off to great starts to the year, and that students and teachers alike are looking forward to back-to-school night Monday, Sept. 18.
West Linn High School Named National Unified Champion School
The Board welcomed representatives from West Linn High School's Unified Club and Unified Sports teams to congratulate them on the accomplishment.
Student Safety Update
Spencer-Iiams also presented information about the District's Framework for Safe and Inclusive Schools, and training that took place this summer for emergency response medical teams in all WLWV schools.
Board Approves Resolution Reaffirming Safe and Welcoming WLWV Schools
The Board also asked Superintendent Kathy Ludwig and her staff if they could revisit WLWV policies ahead of a November Board Meeting to ensure alignment and consistency around inclusive practices. The Board said it would discuss related policies at that meeting.
Bond Project Updates
Woodley also updated the Board on a variety of other bond projects, including an updated entryway at Wilsonville High School, the addition of a safe and secure perimeter fence at Cedaroak Park Primary, updates to all WLWV middle schools, and technology implementation throughout the District among many other projects. Woodley informed the Board that the District has worked on a total of 62 projects requiring 52 different construction contracts as a result of the 2014 Capital Bond, and that many of those projects have already been completed.
