Hooch Happenings
November 11, 2022
Todd's Tidbits
Hooch Community,
On behalf of the Chattahoochee staff, I want to say thank you to all of our extended Hooch Family veterans!!
As I mentioned in our last newsletter, we kicked off our "No Shame" campaign this week in partnership with One Johns Creek and Pathways2Life. It is a pledge to do my/your/our part in stopping the stigma surrounding mental health and substance abuse challenges.
Please pay close attention to our exam week schedule so you and your student can plan accordingly. On Friday, December 16th (last day of exam week), the "recovery day" will ONLY be for those students who qualify and want to recover a poor grade. If a student does not have a recovery assessment to take, then they will not report to school on that day.
All the best,
Dr. Mike Todd
Principal
Showing up Matters for R.E.A.L.
Students succeed when educators and families work together as equal partners. Building strong relationships are essential to the success of any thriving community. Did you know that Showing up Matters for R.E.A.L. not only for academic success, but school also offers an opportunity to develop social and emotional skills such as listening, paying attention, problem-solving and self-regulation, all which are needed to grow and learn. Let’s work together to build a strong community of talented young people who are committed to learning and growing emotionally into responsible adults.
Last Week Exams Schedules
During the last week of each semester, teachers will administer their last assignment of the semester during the designated times for each class period on the "Last Week Exams Schedule" available HERE.
- For first semester, these exams run from Tue Dec 13 through Thur Dec 15, 2022
- The last day of the semester, Fri Dec 16, will serve as a "Recovery Day" for students who need to recover the grade earned on a last week exam taken earlier in the week
- Wed Dec 14, Thur Dec 15, and Fri Dec 16 will be half-days for students with busses departing around 12:30pm
- Students are expected to be in attendance and exams may not be taken early. Any student who misses their "Last Week Exam" will need to make-up missed exams in January (either on the Jan 3rd teacher work day -or- on Saturday January 7th from 8am to 11am)
- Depending on the course, these exams will be entered into the gradebook and count as either one major or one minor assignment - there is not a separate grading category for last week exams
- Questions? Please reach out directly to your child's teachers (directory HERE) or to your child's administrator (HERE)

Parents/Guardians of 11th graders:
Have you scheduled your student’s Junior Advisement meeting yet? If not, please go to https://www.fultonschools.org/Page/26071 and get started ASAP! Links to the Junior Information recording and PowerPoint are available under the presentation icon, and steps that must be completed prior to the meeting are below that. This meeting is mandatory for all Juniors, and parents are invited to attend as well. Students and parents/guardians are expected to watch the presentation or review the PowerPoint prior to attending the meeting; this will ensure the 20-minute meeting is dedicated to each student’s specific post-secondary planning. We look forward to meeting with you soon!
Seniors applying to college:
The December 1st and 15th deadlines for college applications are quickly approaching! Students must have completed the following at least 10 school days (not including weekends, holidays, or school breaks) prior to the college deadline:
- In Naviance, add the college to their Colleges I’m Applying To list and submit a transcript request.
- If applicable, match their Common App account with Naviance and complete the FERPA waiver (click on any college in Common App, then click the Recommenders and FERPA tab). Their colleges will then populate in Colleges I’m Applying To in Naviance.
- If applying to a college that requires a counselor form or letter, upload their completed Senior Profile in their Counselor’s Class of 2023 Teams.
Videos and guides for various parts of Naviance can be found at https://www.fultonschools.org/Page/19744.
Please ask your students to double-check that their selected college deadlines and application/decision types (ex. Early Decision, Early Action, Regular Decision) are listed correctly in Naviance, and if not, to update them! We need both of these to be absolutely correct to ensure your students’ documents are received by their colleges in time.
All students:
The Make-Up Lab is offered after school from 3:30 to 5:30 pm on Mondays – Thursdays and is monitored by a teacher. Students may use this dedicated time and place to work on missing assignments and take quizzes or tests! Students should tell their teacher(s) ahead of time when they will be going to the Make-Up Lab so the teacher(s) can ensure the make-up work is delivered to the Lab.
Additionally, Extended Learning help sessions are available for the subjects below, and they are limited to 25 students each. Students can sign up to attend sessions using the links below, via the QR codes available in their teacher’s classroom, or via the QR codes on Ms. Showfety’s door in the Counseling Office.

Did You Know?
November is National Homeless Youth Awareness Month!
Homeless children and youth report that school is a home to them – a place where they see the same faces, sit in the same seat, and can put their hearts and minds into pursuits that ease their daily troubles. In school, students gain the skills and support needed to overcome poverty and homelessness as adults. (NAECY, 2022)
Families who move into our community and are without permanent housing are allowed to enroll their children in our schools. Public school becomes the one constant that students can rely on when experiencing transition. We welcome and support these families by ensuring the transcripts are accurate for on time graduation, we offer academic support through tutoring, we engage through parent/teacher conferences, and we refer to other community organizations for financial support. Over 1,000 students in Fulton County Schools have been identified. Let’s continue to do our part by listening and asking questions when a concern arises.
If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to reach out to Alicia McClung, School Social Worker at 470-254-7557 or mcclunga1@fultonschools.org.
