There is a lot going on around LCTC this month, so make sure to check it all out below. We are wrapping up the last couple of weeks for our seniors. We are so proud of all of them and wish them the best. Seniors, make sure to check your home high school for all important senior event dates.

We would like to send a HUGE thank you to Churchill's PTSA for thinking of us during Staff Appreciation Week and treating us to a delicious breakfast and lunch.

Construction is still underway here at LCTC and we are starting to see glimpses of the final product on the exterior of the building. Check out the progress in the picture below. When the students are dismissed for summer break the renovations will begin inside the building. We are excited to share the new learning environment and opportunities for the 2023-24 school year.

Let’s make every effort to attend class daily, be on time, and stay focused in your classes. As the weather warms up, please adhere to the school dress code policies. Please drive SLOW and carefully in the parking lot.

We have a month left of school, let’s make sure to finish strong!!

LCTC Administration

Some of our programs at LCTC offer certifications and credentials. Students studied hard all year to pass these credentialing exams. So far we have certified or credentialed the following:

-47 Advanced Medicine students passed the Patient Care Technician certification. The PCT Certification focuses on direct patient care skills, EKG, and Phlebotomy. Students are currently employable in a hospital setting, outpatient care setting, nursing home, doctor's offices, etc.

-20 Construction students received their Michigan 60-hour Residential Builder pre-licensure. This certification allows the students to take the Builders License test after graduation.

-9 Business Management students received their Microsoft Office Specialist Certification in PowerPoint.

-5 Business Management students received their Microsoft Office Specialist Certification in Excel.

A BIG thank you to @giftoflifemich for teaching the advanced medicine students about the importance of organ donation! Our students were amazed to see real human organs up close and personal.

Did you know that your lungs, kidneys, intestines, pancreas, heart, and liver can all be donated?? That's 8 lives you could save? That doesn't include other important tissues like bone marrow, corneas, and veins!

The Fashion Merchandising Program hosted their Annual Fashion Show on April 26th, 2023 with 200 people in attendance. The name of the show this year was Bright Lights, Big City. The students planned this show from start to finish and raised $1491 Western Wayne Foster Closet.

Congratulations to Game Design students Willow Gurney and Carlito Wade-Mitchell whose Game entitled Mother Nature was selected as a Finalist for the 2023 G4C Student challenge competition for the Climate Action Heros Theme award category!

Their accomplishment will be celebrated at the G4C Student Challenge Virtual Awards Ceremony on Tuesday, June 13, during which winners and prizes will be announced. All winners will receive prizes and one National Champion winner will be awarded a $10,000 scholarship, generously provided by Take-Two Interactive.

Congratulations to Game Design student Jaylen Knight who is a finalist in the Games For Change Student Challenge Competition for his game Journey for Peace in the Give Peace a Change category.

Several students in both the Game and Animation class were recognized as finalists in the Character Design Award!

The Computer Repair class earned a silver award from Cyberstart America by having 21 students participate in CyberStart America (CSA) program in 2022-23. Please see below:

Cyber Opportunity School: Silver Award

CyberStart America is a free, immersive online learning resource for students in the US, acting as an onramp to a career in one of the world’s fastest-growing industries. Through gamified learning, students can progress from zero knowledge of cybersecurity through to being proficient in offensive and defensive cyberscecurity techniques, Python programming, digital forensics and more. This badge shows that an educator is helping to inspire the next generation of cybersecurity agents, close the skills gap and equip the US with the talent it needs for a safer tomorrow.

A Special Congratulations goes to our Rotary Vocational Award Winner, Theresa Lilla. Theresa is in Advanced Graphic Design and won the award based on her strong work ethic, academic excellence, integrity, and overall excellence as a student at LCTC and Franklin High School.

Criminal Justice students learn basic firefighting skills and how police and fire collaborate to keep the community safe.

THE LPS EDUCATION FOUNDATION IS AGAIN OFFERING STAR AWARDS FOR TEACHER & STAFF APPRECIATION MONTH 2023!
