Thank you...

Dear Oakley Park families,

As we "officially" conclude the 2019-2020 school year, I want to offer my thanks to our school community!

Thank you for being involved and keeping up on communication during the closure! For example, our student material pick up/drop went so well! I appreciate families carefully following the directions given and ensure the health and safety of all.

Thank you for supporting your students with their school work and Zoom schedules! Overall, student participation was very good and students who engaged regularly will benefit from their hard work as we return to school in the fall.

Thank you for supporting our staff...throughout these past three months I have heard from so many of you regarding your child's teacher and his/her efforts. Our staff worked extremely hard and your notes/comments of praise mean so much to them.

Thank you for your continued partnership and commitment to our school family. Oakley Park is a very special place and that hasn't happened by chance. It is the love, kindness and support we give to one another that makes us so unique.

Thank you to our staff...the phone calls, emails, text messages, special "drive byes", letters and notes sent in the mail, one on one and small group Zoom meetings and more. Your efforts were critical in keeping our kids and families connected during a time many felt isolated. Your love and passion for our students (and their families) is truly exceptional!

I look forward our return to school in the Fall and to the gift of being "together".

Have a wonderful summer! Stay safe & Be well!

Talking with our children is KEY!

As our country and the world continues to advocate for justice and equality, not shying away from conversations with our children is so very important. Below is another good resource (from National Geographic) to support us as we support our children.

2019-2020 Oakley Park Yearbooks

All students will receive their 2019-2020 yearbook when we return to school in the Fall. We will be sure to send yearbooks to our 5th graders at Walnut Creek and mail copies to all students who has moved (or is attending a new school in the fall).

WLCSD Budget Information

At the Board of Education held Thursday, June 4, the Board, with regret, gave layoff notices to more than 40 teachers. As we explained in this video Budget Update May, 2020, we are preparing a budget that includes sweeping reductions. We must have a balanced budget for next school year by June 30, though we have not yet been told what dollars will be available. We continue to review every position, every contract, and all expenses. Thank you for taking some time to review this updated WLCSD budget data. We respectfully request that you advocate for unrestricted and federal funds with our federal legislators as Michigan’s budget woes will result in significant cuts to schools’ budgets. Here are some important talking points about school funding.
