MPES Connection
November 13, 2020
Message from Mrs. Mamon
The first quarter of our school year ended this past Tuesday. I continue to be amazed at the hard work, perseverance, innovation and positivity that every member of our school community demonstrates on a daily basis. Our students, teachers and families have definitely risen to the challenge and I am excited to see the great things to come this year!
The end of the quarter is when teachers typically send home a report card so that parents can see how their child is progressing. This year, parents are encouraged to check their child's grades in the PowerSchool Parent/Student Portal. See below or click here for pictures of each step to access grades in PowerSchool.
All students automatically have access to their grades by logging into the PowerSchool Parent/Student Portal using the same username and password that they use to log into their device. This link has been added to the CES & MPES Weblinks page that is accessible through every student's Canvas homepage.
Other Important Notes:.
- Thank you to all of the parents and family members who participated in a conference with their child's teacher during these past few weeks. If you did not sign up for a conference, please contact your child's teacher to schedule a time to meet online through Zoom to discuss how your child is doing in school. Communication between home and school is very important to your child's success!
- When viewing your child's grades online, please note that he/she will not receive a grade for Counseling Connection. Our school counselors use this time during the schedule to focus on our students' social and emotional needs.
- Third grade students and families - The Cougar Elementary 2019-2020 yearbooks have arrived and can be picked up on Monday, November 16 between 4:30 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. in the Cougar parking lot off of Stephanie Street.
Don't forget to send pictures of our students learning at home! I love seeing and sharing them in my weekly newsletters (see below). Snap a picture and send it to me at stacey.mamon@mpark.net.
Sincerely,
Stacey Mamon

Counselor Corner
This week our school counselors have been collaborating with Ms. Scharek, our Tech Time Teacher, to teach our students how to be great digital citizens! Students have been learning how their actions and decisions online (and in person) can impact themselves and others. We have also been talking about how every choice they make impacts their digital footprint. Here is a great family activity that you can do at home with your child to reflect more on their digital citizenship.

If you have questions or concerns about a website, app, or game your child is using, a great website to use is https://www.commonsensemedia.org/ . This website provides age appropriate recommendations based on expert reviews. Common Sense media also provides objective advice and tips for parents, guardians, and families.
If you have any concerns about your student, please reach out to our school counselors, Ms. Rose (patricia.rose@mpark.net) and Ms. Rupert (makenzie.rupert@mpark.net). You can also fill out this Parent/Caregiver Referral to School Counselor form about your concerns.

Tips to Support your Student
- Start letting your student do things on their own, when possible, so they are learning how. Have them try on their own first!
- If you need to speak to the teacher for any reason, please contact him/her by email or phone during office hours, not during a live Zoom class.
- Try not to be on camera if/when supporting your student; build independence. If you need to support them, sit off camera so other students are not distracted.
