Colts,
As April approaches, teachers continue to prepare students for the upcoming testing season and the other educational demands of the spring. As I visit classes, it is great to see that our campus goes beyond teaching to any one test, but also prepares our students for their future. We have a lot to be thankful for at CMS, where relationships matter. Within the business of each week, it is great to see our students having opportunities to have downtime, whether it is going outside to enjoy some sunshine during lunch or having an opportunity to take their mind off things with their selected clubs on club days.
I hope all of our Colts enjoy their three day weekend!

CMS Strengths Spotlight
Grouping by Strengths
Seventh graders in Visser’s PreAP classes were strategically grouped in teams to work on an assignment. They were given two articles to read, discuss, and write about regarding the differences in how different forms of media influence us. They had one class period to complete a sheet using the SOAPStone reading strategy. The twist on this was that the students were grouped according to their Strengths Themes.
They discussed as a class that each of them bring different things to the table to allow them all to be more successful. They talked about how having all of one theme (for example: all WOO, all Strategic, all Competition, etc.) in a group may not be the most effective for various reasons.
When they began working, it was like a perfectly scripted performance was happening, except the students did not even know it until afterwards. They each stepped into their strength roles of Empathy, Includer, Strategic, Responsibility, Communication and more so beautifully! To watch the amount of work they accomplished and the deep conversations they were having within 47 minutes truly supported the reason we learn each other’s strengths and value what each person brings to the table.
Thank you to Mrs. Visser and her students for the great examples of utilizing Strengths at CMS!
District Website Launch
As we transition to the new website, we are aware that if you search Google for items on the GCISD webpage, it directs you to our old site and will state that the link is broken. The District is working with Google to reroute traffic to the new webpage; however, we do not have a time table for its completion. If you go to www.gcisd.net and use the search tool at the top of the webpage, you will be able to find all of the content from the old site. We apologize for the inconvenience with Google and will provide any further updates as they are received. If you have any further questions or concerns, please contact the District using Let's Talk.
