This Week at MHS
Here's what is happening the week of January 25th-29th!
Dear MHS Parents and Students,
This week on Thursday our bell schedule will include an AM Activity period. Please see the adjusted bell schedule below.
During this activity period Sophomores and Juniors will report to homerooms (listed below) to receive information regarding registration for next year. All Sophomores and Juniors will be receiving an email Thursday morning with the digital links to all information so that it can be viewed at home as well. Counselors will be working with students to develop their course selections during the month of February.
During this activity period all Seniors will be reporting to the gym for an assembly regarding senior events for the remainder of the school year. All seniors will receive an email on Thursday morning with a link to the Zoom and presentation should they not be able to attend in person.
February 1st is the deadline to purchase the 2020-21 Yearbook. Don't miss out on this opportunity!
Governor Lee has extended his executive order that limits attendance at sporting events. We miss our student section, but appreciate everyone's compliance with the requirements listed below.
We remind everyone that all students are expected to wear a face covering when social distancing cannot occur. We appreciate your support in caring for the health and well being of our school community.
Is your student interested in a Dual Enrollment Course?
Dual Enrollment or Early College Experience is the opportunity for students to earn not only high school credit but also college credit hours for college classes taken during their junior and senior years of high school. Students must qualify by having a 3.0 unweighted GPA, and they must have minimum subscores of 19 on the ACT. Likewise, the state of Tennessee provides the Dual Enrollment Grant to students to assist in paying for college tuition. The information for Dual Enrollment can be found at maryville-schools.org, Maryville High School, Classrooms, Dual Enrollment.
If your child is interested in taking DE classes, please complete the Application and Release forms that are below. Please see Mrs. Burchfield if you need additional information.

Clarifying Required Quarantine Times
- Close contact quarantine is now only 10 days, not 14.
- The 10 day quarantine requirement can be shortened with the following stipulations:
- A student must receive a negative result from a PCR test, not a rapid test.
- The test must be taken on Day 6 of the quarantine time frame or later.
- The negative test allows a student to return to school on Day 8 of the quarantine time. Basically, a negative test will allow a student back two days sooner, depending on the length of time it takes to receive the test results.
- Documentation of the negative test results will be required to re-enter school early and should be provided to the school nurse before a student attends classes.
We know that asking a student to quarantine impacts extracurricular obligations, work obligations, and family plans. Thank you for your continued support as we follow the TDOH guidelines this upcoming semester.
Athletic Events Attendance Update
Unfortunately, large scale attendance by spectators and students must be curtailed. Doing so means that bands, pep bands, cheerleaders, and dance teams may not attend athletic contests while these restrictions remain in place.
In accordance with the new Executive Order, the only attendees permitted at practices or games, in addition to the student-athletes on the team, are:
1. Players’ parents or guardians and immediate household members; grandparents
2. First Responders;
3. Coaching and team personnel;
4. School, game, and facility administrators; school faculty and staff
5. Athletics officials; and
6. Media and athletic scouting personnel attending the event in their professional capacity.
Social distancing between persons from different households is required.
While the Executive Order does not mandate the use of masks, the Governor has encouraged masks, and the TSSAA COVID-19 Sports Regulations provision regarding the use of masks remains.
Registration information for the 2021-22 school year will be presented to current sophomores and juniors this Thursday, 1/28/21, in homeroom. Instructional videos will be uploaded to the MHS School Counseling page for digital learners and for parents to review. Counselors will begin holding registration meetings for all students in the month of February.
In December, all PSAT participants were emailed an access code to view their test results from the fall 2020 exam administration. MHS will receive paper copies of the score reports in mid to late February. Once we receive the score reports, counselors will distribute them along with student test booklets.
If you are a parent of a current 12th grader and still require assistance with FAFSA form completion, please contact Erika Adams directly at erika.adams@tn.gov. As a reminder, the state of TN has extended the FAFSA filing deadline for TN Promise eligibility to March 1, 2021.
