September 2015

September is Childhood Obesity Awareness Month

According the the Center for Disease Control, about 1 in 5 children in the United States has obesity, and some groups of children are more affected than others. Energy balance is key to healthy weight in children. Although there is not single or simple solutions, the CDC has some ways for parents to help prevent obesity and support healthy growth in children. For more information regarding Childhood Obesity Awareness month or tips on how to prevent childhood obesity, please visit the CDC's website

What have we been doing?

We began our year working on a Movement Concepts unit. The goal for this unit was for students to be able to answer the question "How do we move?" Movement concepts include space awareness, body awareness, effort awareness, and relationship awareness. Students explored moving in different space, levels, pathways, and directions using a variety of locomotors and non-locomotors. Students also explored effort through timing their movement (speed) and force (strength). To conclude, students explored the relationship their movements have with other objects and people
