Counselor Lesson of the Week: Calming Jars!
Are You Ready for the 2020-2021 School Year?
For sixth graders, one of the classes you may be wondering about will be Healthy Habits. This is a 12 week required course for all 6th graders. Students will take this class as a part of a rotation through PE or Advisory if they have Dance. This course is designed to teach kids life skills such as dealing with social media, dealing with stress through mindfulness, drug awareness, and healthy relationships.
For seventh and graders, any course labeled as a HS credit course will give your student high school credit. These courses include, Spanish 1 and Spanish 2, Art 1 HS, Advanced Art HS, Algebra, AVID 1, Algebra 1, Principles of Human Services, and Principles of Applied Engineering, MAPS and Communication Applications. Attendance is very critical in these classes and any student who misses more than 9 days a semester will have to make up the time lost. This means that they will have to attend Stingray Academy, come in for tutoring before or after school, or attend a Saturday school. Any student needing assistance is encouraged to speak to their teacher or counselor.
