TLES Community Newsletter

This was a fun week of dress-up days as we reminded students that "kindness matters." We are grateful to our PTA for not only planning each day's activities but also organizing a fun anti-bullying magic show assembly today.
As we close out another month and approach the start of October, we want to thank families for continuing to work with us on improving our school attendance by ensuring students only miss school when they are sick and by getting them here each day on time. We have seen improvement and appreciate parent support with this!
In a couple of weeks, we will be holding Parent/Teacher conferences. This is a great opportunity for families to not only get an update on their students' present levels but also work with their teacher on setting goals for the rest of the school year. You will be told your child's Lexile/Quantile level and how you can use this information to best support them in their growth this year. Scroll down for more information on Lexile/Quantile.
Lastly, we want to ask that families please work with us on ensuring students (and families alike) are walking and riding to school in a manner that is safe for themselves and others. We ask that helmets be worn properly, crosswalks are used correctly and adults on duty are respected. Safety is our number one priority.
Thank you all for your continued partnership. We are looking forward to a fun and productive month ahead. Scroll down to learn more about all the wonderful things happening in October at TLES.

TVUSD has begun our education component regarding E-bikes. Over the next two weeks, deputies and campus security will be issuing written warnings for violations. They will send the warnings back to safety and security, and they will email the parents to make them aware of the violation. After that, the Sheriff's department will begin issuing citations for violations. In some cases, students may be cited.
We have seen an increase in students not wearing their helmet when riding their bikes and/or scooters to school. Please remember students MUST be wearing a secured helmet...it is the law! If students are not wearing a helmet, they will be given one reminder. If they continue to not wear a helmet, the bike and/or scooter will be secured in the front office where an adult needs to come pick it up. Please help us encourage Eagle safety by ensuring your students have and wear a helmet!
Please remember that parents, volunteers, and visitors are not allowed to take pictures and/or videos on school campus unless your child is getting an award at Friday Flag. TLES administration, Secretary, and PTA are the only ones authorized to take pictures and videos as they are aware of which students have a signed media release on file. Thank you for your support in ensuring student safety is a top priority!
Our Reading Garden needs your help! Last year our school started the garden rejuvenation project to create a natural outdoor environment for students to learn and read. We currently have 10 garden boxes containing various vegetables, flowers, and even pumpkins! We have plans this year to cultivate the last 10 garden boxes to include a succulent and herb garden. If you are interested in supporting our garden, please consider visiting our Donors Choose page.
Lexiles and Quantiles
Quantile measures represent the difficulty, or demand, in learning the mathematical skill. Quatile measures are represented by a number followed by a "Q" (ie. 850Q). Quantile measures range from below 0Q (emerging math-Kindergarten) to above 1600Q (advanced math-Algebra II, Trigonometry, Pre-Calculus).
Below are different Lexile measures needed in various careers based on reading materials that are commonly used in that field. As parent-teacher conferences are coming up, be sure to talk to your child's teacher about their Lexile/Quantile scores!
*Please note that if there is an emergency, please call 911.
