Sighet, Transylvania

Elie Wiesel was born in sighet. A Ghetto was established in sighet on April 18-20, 1944. Sighet Transylvania is now part of Romania, Over millions of Jews were killed from Sighet Transylvania.
Ghetto
A Ghetto was built and approximately 14,000 Jews from surrounding villages were crowed into it. Jews have to give away their valuables to authority. The local police and 50 police officers guarded it. They had to wear yellow stars in the ghetto and couldn't go back to their homes.
Travel to Aushwitz
The Jews have to transport the train, so they almost take everything their belonging. During traveling for days, there is no bathroom and some foods for over hundreds people. Most of the population from sighet were gassed on the arrival at Aushwitz. They traveled in two groups and upon arrival they were separated by gender.
After World War 2, They Survive
Several hundreds survived after the war including Elie Wiesel. The survivors from sighet settled in parts of Romania after the holocaust. Some settled in Israel and other parts of Jewish world.
