A Message from Principal Joshua

Greetings Lion Nation,

Welcome to the final countdown of the 2020-21 school year. There are exactly 6 weeks remaining until the last day of school, May 26th! Please be sure to remain connected as there will be communication on various topics as we get closer to the final days of school. Progress checks will be ready for you by the end of the day on Friday, April 16th. This is also a teacher work day as DCSS employees will have the opportunity to receive their 2nd Covid-19 vaccine shot and work on grades. We are also working in concert with the County Office to finalize plans regarding learning options for next school year. Once those plans have been solidified, I will communicate them with you through all platforms.

In the next section of the newsletter you will also find details regarding EOC testing taking place in May. I am also very pleased to announce that we will be having PROM! The date for prom is Saturday, May 15th and it will take place here on campus. The cost for prom is $50 and must be paid online, in advance. Finally, we are also most certainly having an in-person graduation for the Class of 2021! Details and dates will be communicated in the coming days.

Please encourage your students to finish this school year as strong as possible. It is imperative that they are in attendance every day either in-person or online. If online, they need to have their cameras on and actively engage with the teacher throughout the class period. Having missing assignments is not acceptable as they should be completing their work every day. We are here to support every student, so if you need any additional assistance please contact your teachers via email. Thank you for your continued support!

AP Testing Information

Students who enroll in AP courses and take AP exams send a signal to colleges that they’re serious about their education and that they’re willing to challenge themselves with rigorous coursework. Research shows that students who receive a score of 3 or higher on AP Exams typically experience greater academic success, fulfill graduation requirements earlier, and have higher college graduation rates than their non-AP peers.

All LSHS students enrolled in an AP course are registered to take the corresponding AP exam. AP Exams will be administered at LSHS between May 3rd and May 17th.

The exam schedule and details about exam exemptions, fee waivers, and payment are available online at

The deadline to submit all forms and payments is April 23, 2021.

Dual Enrollment

Are you interested in taking college classes and getting High School and College Credit? Do you want to take college classes for free? Do you want to take classes at the University of West Georgia without traveling to Carrollton? Do you want to take college classes during the school day without leaving LSHS? If you answered yes to these questions, please contact our Dual Enrollment Counselor, Ms. Mitzi Blackstone at We have two colleges that are offering special programs for our students. Also, check out the Dual Enrollment Checklist below.

Cadet Sergeant Major Lesliey Calvo is the first female Sergeant Major in the JROTC Lions battalion in 22 year history. She followed in her brother's footsteps as he was the battalion Sergeant Major in 2017. Sergeant Major is the highest enlisted rank a cadet can achieve.

Congratulations to Rebecca Scarbrough who has been selected to participate in the Governor's Honors Program for Engineering! She will be attending this prestigious program this summer along with three of our students who were selected last year but could not attend due to the pandemic...Prince Tufon for Math; Angenie GeDeon for visual arts, and Chloe Cowan for Theatre!
