TOP 10 CARDINAL CELEBRATIONS
1. Fifty-three Clinton High School FBLA students attended the Show Me Leadership Conference at Worlds of Fun on Saturday, September 30th. Clinton swept the Presentation Skills event by bringing home first, second, and third place!
2. The CSD celebrated our custodial and maintenance staff on Monday, which was National Custodian Appreciation Day. Go here to see the men and women who keep our schools and facilities looking amazing and play an important role in creating great learning environments for our Cardinals.
3. Shout out to the Cardinal Coop! This multi-grade level classroom at CIS is utilizing technology to allow ALL students in their class the opportunity to participate in a book study! In a recent study of the book The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, teachers Mrs. Gardner and Ms. Bracher utilized the app, Amazon Whispercast, to allow every student in the class to have their own "copy", as they read the book on the classroom iPads!
4. Congrats to the Girls' Softball Team who won their opening game of the District Tournament in Odessa yesterday. The team will take on Pleasant Hill on Saturday.
5. Thanks to the Clinton Fire Department for providing fire safety presentations to our early childhood, elementary and intermediate students. We appreciate the enthusiasm the firemen put into the presentations every year! The students LOVE having them in our schools!
6. Congrats to Clinton Technical School Health Occupations teacher, Barbara Houk, who was presented the Sunrise Optimist Club Educator of the Year award last week.
7. Ninety students in kindergarten-8th grade participated in the CHS Cheerleaders, Jr. Card Squad Cheerleading Clinic. These students had the opportunity to cheer at Monday's JV Football game. You can find pics of these future CHS cheerleaders here.
8. Clinton Middle School STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) teacher, Mrs. Alex Hill presented a great lesson to her students this week. Students studied thermal protection systems utilized by NASA to protect astronauts from the harsh conditions of re-entry to Earth's atmosphere. Students then designed and created a prototype of their own heat shield to protect an "eggstronaut" from the heat of a blowtorch to simulate the situation of a space shuttle returning to Earth.
9. Clinton High School senior, and State FBLA president, Sadie Vernon got up bright and early on Thursday morning to speak with members of the Sunrise Optimist Club.
10. One of the many great things about Clinton Technical School are the opportunities it provides our students to get hands-on, "real world" learning! Students in Mr. Mesh's Computer Information Systems class are excited to announce that they are ready to begin working on computers. Please email fmesh@clintoncardinals.org if our students can be of service to you!

"IT'S A GREAT DAY TO BE A CARDINAL" ARTICLES
A Great Start at CIS
Submitted by: Jarrod Boyles, Clinton Intermediate School Principal
What a wonderful start to the school year it has been at CIS! I am pleased to share that we have experienced a very smooth transition from the lazy days of summer to the all so familiar and hectic routine as staff and students fill the classrooms. Our CIS students have been nothing short of amazing as they engage in active learning on a daily basis. The sights and sounds of daily instruction, mixed with joyful and enthusiastic learning, makes for a warm and inviting atmosphere for everyone who walks these halls.
Equally as impressive, are the amazing faculty and staff members that work day in and day out to motivate, guide, and educate our learners. I am very fortunate to be a part of such a wonderful family of educators that want to see every child succeed.
I encourage you as parents, friends, and community members to make time to come see all the wonderful things happening in our little world. Any of the front office staff would enjoy the opportunity to provide tours of the building to show off the wonderful things happening every day at CIS. We also have volunteer opportunities for visitors to sit down and work with students on an individual basis. If you would like more information on how to volunteer please get in contact with the CIS office at 885-3179.
Be sure to follow us on Twitter @CIScards345 to stay up to date with Clinton Intermediate!
It’s A Great Day To Be A CIS Cardinal!!!
A Busy, Productive and FUN Start at Henry Elementary
Submitted by: Sherri Swope, Henry Elementary Principal
As we begin another successful school year, many great things are happening at Henry Elementary!
A new program, Watch D.O.G.S. (Dads of Great Students) has been implemented. Watch D.O.G.S. are fathers, grandfathers, uncles, and other father-figures who volunteer at the school. Their presence may offer additional security at school by helping during arrival and dismissal and by patrolling the school. The male volunteers help make a positive influence on our students' day by playing with them at recess, reading with students or helping with flashcards, sharing about their career, and helping during lunch in the cafeteria. We currently have 14 dads that have volunteered for this program. If you are interested in participating in Watch D.O.G.S., please call the school at 885-5585.
Our Facebook Live Bedtime Story with the Principal is another initiative introduced this year. Principal, Mrs. Swope has already had the pleasure of reading two bedtime stories. The first bedtime story was viewed by 4,900 people and shared 45 times. The second story, Pirate Pete, was viewed 3,300 times and shared 28 times. This has been a wonderful activity and the students LOVE it! The school hopes to read a Facebook Live bedtime story to students at least once a month. Watch Facebook for the next bedtime story in the next two weeks.
Our students had a great time competing with CIS students and staff in a penny war to help raise money for the CIS Ready to Play fundraiser. The building that collected the least amount of change from the event had to “walk the plank.” Together, the two buildings raised $840.00 for the CIS playground fund. Mrs. Swope and Mr. Kenney were the losing principals. CIS students enjoyed throwing water balloons at them as they “walked the plank.” A great time was had by all for a very good cause!
Assistant Superintendent, Dr. King recently presented information at the October PTO meeting. Parents in attendance learned about the Title I program, ways to help their child, and met the Title I teachers from Henry Elementary and CIS. If you would like more information regarding the Title I program, please call 885-5585.
Over 200 students in grades K-2 met their behavior goal for the month of September and enjoyed a picnic with principals, Mrs. Swope and Mr. Kenney.
K-2 students joined students district-wide as they participated in the first service learning project of the year, “Cardinals Give Back.” Students collected 16 boxes of school supplies in just 4 days for students in need after Hurricane Harvey hit Texas. The boxes were delivered by FBC member Kevin McMenemy to students in the Texas City ISD.
Teachers in the district are busy writing curriculum and creating units of instruction in ELA (English Language Arts.) This process started this summer with a week long Curriculum Camp for representatives in grades K-8. Work will begin very soon in math.
As you can see, the first 32 days of school at Henry Elementary have been busy, productive and FUN! At Henry, we can definitely say, "It's a Great Day to be a Cardinal".
BRIGHT FUTURES NEWS
Classroom Partners-Bright Futures Clinton is currently looking for 5 businesses, organizations, Sunday School classes, etc. to partner with classes at Henry Elementary this school year. This requires NO financial commitment....only a commitment of time to a class of students and their teacher. This has been a very successful and rewarding program for 2 years. If you or your business/organization are curious to learn more, please reach out to Angie Lawson (alawson@clintoncardinals.org).
Bright Futures Day-Wednesday, October 11th is the monthly Bright Futures Day. Remember to wear a Bright Futures Clinton t-shirt (can be purchased at the Chamber for $10) or other bright shirt to help bring awareness to the Bright Futures organization.
