Notes and Updates
This week will be an eventful one as it is only a 4 day week with Tuesday being a full Tuesday. The specials for Tuesday will just be art and a fun activity with the pre-k teachers at the end of the day.
Last week, in reading students researched and reviewed character traits, both external and internal. They learned more and more about their favorite character. Finally they had their celebration and made reading posters about their favorite character then shared their findings with their classmates.
In writing, students finished their small moment unit by revising, editing, and publishing a writing piece. Then they celebrated their writing by reading it to a second grader. Students were so excited they even received a compliment from their second grade partner.
In Math, students started their new unit and learned more about place value. They focused on thinking of a two digit number as ones and tens and decomposing it into ones and tens by using a number bond. They also really enjoy using the base 10 blocks and are able to draw the number by using the quick 10 drawing.
In Social Studies, students learned about how people wear different types of clothing depending on the temperature of an environment. We pretended we were going on a trip to an ecosystem of their choice and packed for the trip by cutting out pictures of clothes we would need.
I have uploaded more photos and unit letter so please make sure to look in our google folders by clicking the link: tinyurl.com/skeane1g.

I need your help. Currently we have 10 shoe boxes and need 10 more. If students do not get a shoe box they will have to complete a different project. If anyone has any I would greatly appreciate bringing them to school. There is the possibility that if you have not brought one in payless may give you one for free.
New Arrival Procedures
Starting January 17th, 2016 there will be some changes for students and parents entering the ASD Campus supporting student safety.
All students will be required to scan their Dragon Wristband entering and exiting the campus. It is recommended that you remind your child to wear their wristband daily. Replacement Dragon bands may be purchased at the front desk of the Administrative entrance for 50 qr. Your childs dragon band will be labeled with their name by a key tag. We kindly ask parents to keep this label on the wrist band for easy identification.
Parents and domestic staff will not be permitted through Gate 5 for morning drop off. Students may enter through Gate 5 using their wristbands and teachers will be there to supervise starting at 7:40 AM. Parents wishing to accompany their children to classes are asked to enter through Gates 8 & 10.
Pick-up procedures will remain the same, parents will be able to enter and exit the campus through Gate 5 from 2:45 - 4:15 PM. Pick up procedures for PACT Tuesdays and our Pre-K Students will also remain the same, parents will be able to enter through Gate 5 at 12:15 PM.
We kindly ask parents and guests to enter through Gate 8 during the school day.
We thank you for your continued patience and cooperation as we work to keep our school safe and continue the improvements to the ASD campus.
Lets Do Math
If you did not get to join the presentation for math. I will be uploading the video of the presentation to the google docs folder later this week.
Our next Lower Elementary Principals’ Coffee is scheduled for January 19, 2016. Our music teachers will be hosting a music education session to introduce parents to the Elementary music curriculum and the role of music in a child’s life.
In addition, we will be introducing a new component to our Principals’ Coffees and that is a Parent Forum. There will be time devoted at every Principals’ Coffee for the remainder of the school year for a Parent Forum, during which the principals will address general themes raised by parents, which have been submitted in advance. Please attend the Principals Coffee for more information.
On Thursday a binder of math games was sent home in your child's home bag in a brown envelope. Some of these are games we have played before, and many we will be playing in class after the new year. Please feel free to use these as a fun way to keep your child's skills sharp over the break. The cards needed for each game are included with the packet on yellow card stock. Please keep this game binder because we will be using them as part of the homework assignments.
