We are thankful for...
I am the most fortunate of women. I am thankful for family, lifelong friends and the opportunity to work, in a small way, in education where every day I see the future unfold. -- Mrs. Kellum
I am thankful this holiday to spend time with my family especially my husband and children. -- Mrs. Walsh
I hope everyone enjoys there break and takes time to give thanks for all the wonderful freedoms and blessings we have in our lives. I know I am thankful for my family and time I get to spend teaching science to our students here at OECHS. -- Mr. Stallard
When I think of what I have to be thankful for, it always comes back to the people in my life. First and foremost, my wife and children that bring me joy every day. My parents that have always been there for me. And my friends/coworkers that help me continue to laugh and enjoy life no matter what the circumstances. -- Mr. Walsh
I am so thankful to have the opportunity to work with the wonderful students and faculty of OECHS, and to help make the world a more "literate" place.
I am also so thankful for my wonderful husband, two lovely sons, and my menagerie of cats. #CrazyCatLady -- Mrs. Huggins
I am thankful for my family, that they are all happy and healthy. I am thankful for my job and the friends and I have made at OECHS and for the students here and their willingness to be open and helpful to their peers. I am thankful for the time we all will have off to spend with the ones we are closest to! Happy Thanksgiving! -- Ms. Hutsell
I am very Thankful for teaching in an environment where the students are hungry for knowledge and are so bright and happy every day. I am thankful to be working with such a great staff, who are so willing to go out of their way anytime to help students not only with the problems in classes but also just trying to put a smile on the students faces by showing they care about them. I hope everyone has a great Thanksgiving. Watch out for getting to much Tryptophan in your system on Thursday. It is an amino acid found in Turkey. Ask your children what 3 letter combination represents Tryptophan. -- Mr. Springfield
I hope all enjoy a safe & family-filled holiday! I am so thankful for a healthy & happy family and the opportunity to spend quality time with them. I often encourage our students to do the same throughout the year, not just on holidays (I have included a nice article on Teams addressing this). I am also so thankful to work at OECHS! I truly enjoy coming to “work” every day. Our staff is awesome and we laugh with each other and the students daily. I think we are the envy of the county not only because of our amazing students, but because our staff is truly a team of professionals who are great teachers, and even better people! HAPPY THANKSGIVING! -- Mr. Marsh
As Thanksgiving approaches this week I wanted to take a moment and say what I am thankful for. I am so happy to be back home for Thanksgiving. One of the major things I missed while living in the UK was Thanksgiving, I tried my best to recreate the feeling, but it just wasn't the same. I am so grateful to be back home with my family. I have been blessed with amazing parents and siblings. I am so grateful that I can cook (because I absolutely love to cook) the meal for my mom, dad, sister and her husband (my brother will be celebrating from Africa, where he lives). I would also like to take a minute and say how thankful I am for all of my students. I absolutely adore every single one of you. You make coming to work and teaching fun and exciting. I look forward to seeing you each day. My coworkers are equally amazing. I have not worked in a place with such a loving and caring atmosphere. Oh my, this is getting quite long, but I bet if we all took a minute to write what we were thankful for it would be a long list. One more thing before I go, I am thankful for my husband. Even though he can't be with me for Thanksgiving, I am thankful he is in my life and thankful he can come and visit while we are waiting on his Visa. Life is so funny. Sometimes things happen that are not what you planned or would ever want to happen. If you just believe and move on things will be okay. I hope you take time to cherish your family and friends during the holiday season. Happy Thanksgiving!! -- Ms. Styons
I give thanks for my family, both at home and here at school. I am blessed to have a beautiful, loving, and understanding wife and two wonderful and amazing children. I am also grateful for my family here at OECHS. We often talk about what an amazing opportunity this is for our students at OECHS. It is equally amazing for our staff. It is rare to truly love what you do and the people (adults and students) you work with. I am a lucky man! Happy Thanksgiving! --- Mr. Strope

OECHS Class Updates
Guidance
As we are approaching this holiday season, please take time to consider those who are without family/friends. Please think of the families that may be in need of essential daily items like clothes and food. If you know anyone that could benefit from the many services in the community, please do not hesitate to pass the information along and we will get it to the right source.
English
English I Honors: This week, students completed their final essay for English I Honors, their documented source essay. We finished our analysis of Richard Connell's "The Most Dangerous Game" and began to discuss requirements for the final exam. Next week, students will continue their study of Short Fiction with Washington Irving's work, "The Devil and Tom Walker." We will begin to finish up our portfolios after Thanksgiving break, but students are encouraged to update all items in portfolios before they return to school on December 2.
Graduation Project: Five students chose to complete the graduation project and will be working independently and during seminar time. Student presentations will be December 5, 2019.
Math
Honors Math 2: Honors Math 2: Students have a project due on Monday at 4:30pm. They had Thursday and Friday in class and time in seminar to work on it last week. Monday in class we will begin Unit 8 which will cover probability. The quiz for Unit 8 will be on Friday.
Honors Math 4: Next week we will start by finishing up Sequences and Series (review and talk about sums of infinite series), and have a quiz on Tuesday. Then we will move on to the Conic Sections (Circles, Parabolas, Ellipses, and Hyperbolas). The focus will be on recognizing the conic from the equation, finding key elements of the conic, and sketching a graph of the conic.
Homework over break is to spend time with family and friends, and take inventory of all you have to be thankful for! Although I realize Math Class is rarely on anyone's list of things to be grateful for, I am thankful for the opportunity to teach at OECHS, and work with my outstanding students every day!
Social Studies
Civics and Economics:On Monday we had a fantastic time with our Scarcity of Resources activity. Congratulations to Allie, Cloe S., Maryam, Brooke, and Kiki for being excellent negotiators and creating the longest paper chain! We are still studying about the U.S. Economy. After the break we will discuss basic economic questions and systems, supply and demand, market structures, and international trade! We are going to be busy! 🙂
AP WH: This week in World History we watched an episode of Mankind: The Story of all of Us- Plague. In this episode we learned additional information about the Mongols and the Plague. After the break we will finish this unit by studying The Americas (Incas, Aztecs, and Mayans). I have tentatively scheduled our next test for Wednesday, December 11th.
American History I Honors: We will review Unit VII (Civil War) when we return from Thanksgiving break. The Unit VII test will be Wednesday, December 4. All Unit VII work will be due at that time. There is no homework due over break unless students are behind on their classwork. I have listed multiple Civil War resources on our Teams page along with the schedule.
Science
Chem Honors: We will be working on our last unit once we return from Thanksgiving Break and then begin Final Exam review.
APES: We will continue working on Unit 5 when we return from Thanksgiving break and take our Unit 5 Test Dec 10.
Biology Honors: This week in Biology we covered 4 of the 6 Kingdoms. We got infected with the bacteria and viruses, then we avoided the red tide with the Protists, and then all the students found out that Mr. Springfield wasn't such a Fungi when he gave them a big open book Quiz the day before Thanksgiving Break. When we come back from Thanksgiving we will be covering the Plant Kingdom, the Animal Kingdom and Animal Behavior right before we start reviewing for the Final Exam
