From the Desk of the Principal

As a staff, we have welcomed many wonderful new scholars to Trix Academy. We are ecstatic all of our new scholars are part of the Trix Academy Community. To begin the school we, we had a successful first assembly of the year. Scholars reviewed the school rules as well as learned how Kickboard will help guide their decisions. Scholars also participated in their first incentive Friday of the year, which celebrated their positive decision making skills throughout the school day. Another first pertained to scholars receiving instruction from our new reading and math curriculum. Both curriculums are rigorous and requires all scholars in each grade level to think deeply in order to apply and demonstrate what they have learned.

Character Reports

Trix Academy's school-wide behavior system is called Kickboard. Through Kickboard scholars earn a virtual or pretend check deposited into their virtual or pretend bank accounts. Connected to the Kickboard system is each scholars' Kickboard Character Report. Their report identifies the positive and negative behaviors each scholar may have received along with the dollar amount that coincides with each. Every Friday, scholars will bring home their character reports as a way to help keep all families on the same page regarding our scholars behavioral decisions. Please review and discuss with your scholar his/her character report. After reviewing the report, if you have any questions, please speak with your child's teacher.

Student Council Campaigns

Trix Academy is starting its Student Council campaigns. Any scholar in grade 6th, 7th or 8th may participate and become a student council member. The positions middle school scholars can run for are President, Vice President, Secretary and Class Officer. Student Council is one way, as a school we make sure our scholar voices are heard. Student Council will be an integral in our school community as we continue to grow during the 2019-2020 school year.

Greenbriar's Candy Sale Fundraiser

On October 25, 2019, Trix Academy will kick off our first school fundraiser. The fundraiser will run from October 28, 2019 until November 11, 2019. All orders and money will be due on November 11, 2019. The fundraiser consists of popcorn and candy with a company called Greenbriar Foods. Please make sure you review the flyer, and order form. There will be a first, second and third place prize for the top sellers. Also, the class who sells the most, in dollar amount, will receive a pizza party. On October 25, 2019, all scholars will participate in an assembly focusing on the fundraiser and how to remain safe. For safety reasons, please speak with your child(ren) about not going door to door and having an adult present when selling items.

NWEA Testing

All scholars at Trix Academy will take an assessment called NWEA (Northwest Evaluation Association). The test is designed to assess each kindergarten through eighth grade child's performance level in reading and math. In addition, scholars in 3rd through 8th grade will take a science assessment. This test is designed to adapt to your scholar's performance. For example, if your child answers the question correctly, he/she will receive a harder question the next time. If your child answers the question incorrectly, he/she will receive an easier question for the the next question. It is very important for your child to be in school daily to ensure he/she is given the best opportunity to do well on the assessment. Please make sure your child eats breakfast and receive a proper amount of sleep the night before. As a reminder, breakfast is served Monday through Friday beginning at 7:55am in the gym of Trix Academy.

Boys and Girls Club, Ernst and Young Associates Partnership

Trix Academy is continuing its partnerships this school year. Last school year, Trix Academy partnered with Consumers Energy, Habitat Wildlife and Central Michigan University to beautify the front of the school. On October 4, 2019, Trix Academy is partnering with The Boys and Girls Club and Ernst and Young Associates to provide our middle school scholars with the opportunity to learn about accounting. Scholars will learn the basics of accounting through guest speakers, discussions and hands on activities. We would like to thank both organizations in advance for supporting our scholars at Trix Academy.

Breakfast

Trix Academy serves breakfast daily from 7:55am - 8:20am in the gym. It is very important for all students to arrive at breakfast time to eat breakfast. Instruction will begin daily at 8:30am, therefore all students eating breakfast must be present between 7:55am and 8:20am. Breakfast is the most important meal of the day. We hope to see all of our scholars at breakfast daily.

Daily Instruction Begins at 8:30am

Trix Academy instruction will begin daily at 8:30am. Promptly at 8:30am, all teaching staff will begin their daily instruction. As a school, I ask that teachers not be interrupted during this time. If you need to speak with your child’s teacher, please call the office to make an appointment. Instruction time is very valuable and will not be interrupted as our scholars will be engaged in the learning process. Please make sure your child is here daily by 8:30am to receive every second of instruction during the school day. Trix Academy will also continue to address truancy. Research shows missing several days of school impacts learning negatively. It is important for scholars to attend school on a daily basis to ensure they are learning their grade level content and/or receiving additional support to help the learning process.

Contact Information

As a reminder, if you change your telephone number, please let the office know. From time to time, Trix will send phone calls regarding upcoming events and other important details. Also, if you change your address,, please inform the office. At times our communications team will send flyers home.

October's Virtue

October's Virtue

As a reminder, Trix Academy is continuing to teach our scholars the skills needed to be productive scholars. This school year, we are taking a more extensive approach through the teaching of character virtues. The virtues addresses all behaviors we will see as a school community and will help guide our scholars as they continue to grow daily. Our virtues are truth, justice, harmony, reciprocity, propriety, balance and order.

During the month of October, Trix scholars will focus on one virtue to gain a better and deeper understanding. The virtue for October is Harmony. Harmony means to be in accord or agreement, as in feeling or opinion. When our scholars demonstrates harmony they will show qualities of unity, order and balance. They will maintain positive relationships and social interactions throughout the school day. Please ask your child how he/she has demonstrated harmony while at school.
