Ayn Rand's Life
Ayn Rand was born in St, Petersburg, Russia on February 2, 1905. At age 6, she began to teach herself to read and write and three years later, she decided she wanted to become a writer when she grew up. She loved and was inspired by western plays. When Ayn was in high school, she was an eye witness to both the Kerensky Revolution (in which she supported), and the Bolshevik Revolution in 1917. When she was a senior in high school, she was introduced to American history and realized that is what a free nation should be. In 1925, she left Russia saying that she was visiting family and said she would only be a few days. She never returned.
Ayn's Philosophy
Ayn Rand's philosophy on the world was be selfish. To her, this meant earn self esteem, work hard to achieve a goal you have, succeed by treating everyone as an individual. To many people, this may be an odd and different approach to their own philosophy on the world. Not everyone thinks the same and I can understand why she thinks that this is the world around her. She grew up in Russia, an awful place for anyone to live and they may have possibly made her feel this way about the world. After all, it is a communist country. People hate her because of how she thinks of the world and the people and things that are in it. I respect how she thinks and doesn't let anyone make her think otherwise.
