Here are some tips on using Meet to manage your video meetings.
Level 1: Start and join video meetings
Learn these basics to get started with Hangouts Meet.
1.1 Start a video meeting: Learn the different ways to start a video meeting, such as from a Calendar invite, a web browser, or your phone.
1.2 Join a video meeting: Learn the different ways to join a video meeting, such as from a Calendar invite, meeting link, or conference room.
1.3 Add people to a meeting: Learn the different ways to add people to a video meeting, such as from a Calendar invite, Meet, or a phone.
Level 2: Collaborate in video meetings
Now that you know the basics, learn how to improve the way you collaborate with your team in Meet.
2.1 Customize video meetings
- Change screen layouts in a meeting
- Pin, mute, or remove meeting participants
- Use captions in a video meeting
- Use a phone for audio in a video meeting
- View meeting details and attachments
- Send chat messages to video meeting participants
- Present during a video meeting
Schedule a video meeting from Calendar.
Optional: Join a meeting while on the go using your mobile phone
- Open the Meet Android or iOS app.
- Swipe up from the bottom to see your scheduled meetings.
- Select a meeting and tap Join.
If you don’t have wifi, you can call in to the meeting from a phone:
- Open the Calendar event or meeting invite.
Choose an option:
- Tap the phone number. The PIN is automatically entered.
- Manually enter the phone number followed by the PIN and #.
Hangouts Meet accessibility
Users with disabilities can participate in Hangouts Meet video meetings using accessibility features in Meet, Chrome Browser, and Google meeting room hardware.
Accessibility features:
- Live captions—Display captions of the person speaking so that participants who are deaf or hard-of-hearing can follow what’s said in video meetings. If you record a video meeting, captions are not recorded and don't appear when you play the recording.

March 19, 2020 Software Updates:
- Only meeting creators and calendar owners can mute or remove other participants in a meeting
- Meeting participants will not be able to re-join nicknamed meetings once the final participant has left

Improved meeting control features: 'mute' and 'remove' For our Education customers, only the meeting creator, Calendar event owner, or person who creates a meeting on an in-room hardware device will be allowed to mute or remove other participants in a meeting. This ensures a teacher, as a meeting creator or Calendar event owner, can't be removed or muted by students participating in the event.Improved teacher controls for nicknamed meetings Participants will not be able to re-join a meeting after the final participant has left if:
- The meeting was created using a short link like g.co/meet/nickname
- The meeting was created at meet.google.com by entering a meeting nickname in the "Join or start a meeting” field
- The meeting was created in the Meet app by entering a nickname in the “Meeting code” field
