Weekly Academics
Reading Street:
•This week we focused on a new Question of the Week; “ How do families cooperate?”
•Amazing words: platypus, lost, found, around, market and groceries
•We recognized and named uppercase and lowercase letter: Oo, Rp, Qq, Rr and Ss
•The students practiced reading and writing the high-frequency words, I and am. We have also added,the and little. Please use the packet given to you at Back-to-School night to practice reading the high- frequency words.
•We discussed the sequence of a story
•Letter and sound review
•How to add details in your drawing
•Some of our favorite books that we read are Crazy Hair Day, Red Leaf, Yelow Leaf and Christopher Columbus
Handwriting:
•Horizontal and Vertical lines
•Reviewed headline, midline and baseline.
•Helpful strategies when writing (proper way to sit, spacing out words)
enVision Math:
•Fewer, more and same as.
•Ordering numbers 0 to 5
•Used objects to problem solve
Social Studies/Science: We learned about Christopher Columbus this week. We discussed his journey and the three ships that sailed the ocean blue in 1492. We even went on our very own journey to find a special treasure. Ask your child to tell you about it.
SEL: We continue to sit as a class and place ourselves somewhere on the Mood Meter. The class took part in a SEL workshop where the students learned more about the Mood Meter and various words new feeling words.
