Letter from Principal Rosenbach

Dear Centennial Families,

I hope this newsletter finds you and your family as healthy as possible. This is a tough time of the year for illness, and we are asking you all to partner with us to keep Centennial as healthy as we are able to. Please see the article below for ways we can all do our part to keep students healthy and safe while here at school.

One of the ways to describe how well a school is doing is to look at the after school/ extracurricular activities that are offered, and we here at CMS are very proud of our programs. Second season sports have started. The boys basketball and girls volleyball team have begun playing their games. We wish them the best of luck this season. Additionally, our clubs are in full swing, and it is great to see our students gather together during lunch and after school around shared interest and activities. Please encourage your student not to miss the opportunity to get involved during their time here at Centennial.

I hope you are all enjoying the wild weather we are having as we enter the last month of 2022. So far, we have had delays or cancellations of school, as well as after school activities canceled for wind, rain, smoke and now snow. Some of these are new to me so we never know what the next day may bring. Please keep up to date and watch for information coming from the district office via phone calls and emails.

In partnership,

Josh Rosenbach

Principal

Partner with us for healthy schools

In the last several weeks we have had several students coming to school with symptoms of respiratory and other illness. Because these illnesses spread quickly through the classroom, we are asking you to observe the following guidelines when deciding whether to send your child to school.

Please keep your child home if they have:

  • A fever (>100.4 F) or chills. Your child should stay home for 24 hours after the fever is gone, without taking fever-reducing medication (ie.Tylenol/Advil);
  • A cough, muscle or body aches, difficulty breathing, loss of taste or smell;
  • Significant congestion or runny nose, sore throat, reddened eyes, green or yellow drainage from the nose;
  • Fatigue or headache;
  • Nausea, vomiting or diarrhea (24 hours free - before returning to school).

If your child has any of the above symptoms, please reach out to your health care provider. It is encouraged that those with symptoms be tested for COVID-19. If testing positive, please reach out to your school nurse/health room for further guidance.

One of the most effective ways to control the spread of illness in school is to keep your child home when symptoms first appear. Frequent hand washing, covering mouth/nose when coughing or sneezing, wearing masks, socially distancing, and receiving preventable vaccines, help prevent the spread of germs, viruses and illness.

Holiday Assistance and Donations

Assistance:

There are many resources available to our community and we would love to help connect families in need to these supplies. With the holidays upon us, we are very aware that some families may need assistance to make the season bright. If you or your family might have a need, we would like the opportunity to help. Please reach out to our school student support advocate:

Donations:

Also, if you would like to donate to help families this season, please feel free to support our community by offering gift cards in $25 increments to places like grocery stores, or multipurpose stores. This allows families to buy groceries, gifts, and gas freely with one card. We appreciate your care and support for others. Helping others is a gift in itself. If you are planning to donate, please reach out to Chynna Loeffler as well.

November Counselor's Corner

Counselor's Corner:

As we approach the holidays, many of us look forward to spending time with family and friends and sharing in the joys of the season. However, for some, the holiday season brings up negative feelings. At this time of year, more than any other, we think about loved ones we have lost, how to finance the gifts and experiences we want to give our family, how to “make the rounds” to all the places people expect us to be, how to survive hours in the car with small children, and the list goes on. Here are some tips and resources to help with the holidays:

School Closures/Inclement Weather

As we head into winter, a reminder regarding school closures, delayed starts and limited transportation (snow) routes and schedules. If inclement weather conditions occur, the district office will decide whether to:

  • Hold school (regular hours)
  • Hold school (delayed start) - All schools will start two hours late
  • Close school

Transportation Update: Student Scan Cards

Students to receive scan cards to ride the bus
To accompany our district's conversion to the Traversa Ride 360 program, all district students will be receiving a Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) scan card, which will act as their ID when riding the bus during the 2022-2023 school year. These scan ridership cards will be distributed to every student throughout the school year. Distribution of the scan ridership cards at Centennial Middle School have begun and will continue until each bus rider has a card.

At each bus stop, the driver will be able see a display of the names and photos of students assigned to that stop so they can confirm that the correct students are boarding or getting off the bus. We recommend the zip reels and card be attached to the right side of their backpacks. Please note that these scan cards are not trackers. No student information is stored on these cards, and they are not used to track a student’s location. The school buses are used to locate students while on the route. The student RFID cards simply help to accelerate the process of recording student check-ins while also mitigating errors. Knowing where and when a student is during a bus route is paramount to ensuring the safety of every child in real-time. Click here to download a handout for parents/guardians with more information about scan ridership cards.

What Is Traversa Ride 360?
