Junior Post-Secondary Testing Sign-up
Smithville High School is excited to offer multiple opportunities for juniors to take a post-secondary exam. On March 7th, 2023, all juniors will be scheduled to take one of four exams listed below. To prepare and order these exams in a timely manner, students must make a decision on what exam they will take by October 31st, 2022. Below is a link to sign up, along with information about each exam.
ACT Test
The ACT is an entrance exam used by most colleges and universities to make admissions decisions. It is a multiple-choice, pencil-and-paper test. The purpose of the ACT test is to measure a high school student’s readiness for college, and provide colleges with one common data point that can be used to compare all applicants. You should take this exam if you plan on entering a 4-year college or university after high school.
In addition, if you sign up for the ACT you will be automatically scheduled to take a practice ACT on 11/22. On this day, you will take a full, released ACT. You will miss your first two classes and Warrior Time.
Accuplacer
The Accuplacer is a placement test that helps you know where to begin your college studies. Testing is required in English, reading and math for most students and must be completed before enrollment into most 2-year or community colleges. You should take this exam if you plan on entering a 2-year or community college after high school.
ASVAB
The Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB) is a timed, multi-aptitude test, which is developed and maintained by the Defense Department (DoD). The ASVAB helps the DoD not just determine whether you are a good fit to join the service, but also which service branch you might be best for and even what military jobs you can hold after you finish basic training or boot camp. You should take this exam if you plan on entering the military service after high school or if you would like assistance in developing your career path.
WorkKeys:
WorkKeys is an assessment-based credential issued at four levels; Platinum, Gold, Silver, and Bronze. This assessment measures and certifies the essential work skills needed for success in jobs across industries and occupations. You should take this exam if you plan on entering the workforce directly after high school.

Jonas Beckham, Jessica Gowett, Genevieve Kochanowicz, Lilian Medley, and Abby Nichols have created an outline, will apply for a 300 dollar grant, and have a plan to roll out activities in January 2023.
