Midway Mustang Memo
September 2021
Mustang Families
Dear Midway Families,
We can’t believe it is almost time for Fall Break! Thank you for viewing your child’s classroom Virtual Curriculum Night recording. We hope you gained more information about how your student’s day looks and what they will be focused on learning this year.
Please help us congratulate Mrs. Katrina Staton on being named Midway’s Teacher of the Year for the 21-22 school year! Mrs. Staton is so deserving of this honor. She wears many hats as an Early Intervention Program teacher, New Educator Leader, Instructional Leadership Team member, and Student Support Team Facilitator. Mrs. Staton supports our Mustang students, staff, and families in so many ways. We are so proud of her!
Our PTO continues to support our school in numerous ways and we want to extend a huge thank you for their dedication to our students and staff! Recently they partnered with Mellow Mushroom to provide our staff with a pizza lunch. Please join us on Tuesday, September 14th from 5:00-9:00 p.m. at Mellow Mushroom Pizza at the Collection for PTO Spirit Night. A portion of each purchase, both dine-in and take out, will be donated back to our Midway PTO which in turn supports our students. Be sure to mention you are part of the Midway Elementary family when placing your order. It will be greatly appreciated by all! In addition, PTO is in the process of applying for a Sunshade Grant through the American Academy of Dermatology. This grant would provide sunshade for our playground. All of our students recently participated in sun safety and skin protection lessons in their classrooms and in our Science Lab.
Thank you for helping us improve our carline and transportation procedures. We love seeing our students smile each morning as they get out of their cars with their bookbags, masks, and water bottles ready to start their day. If you need to change your child's transportation for the day, please use the new form in the Quick Links section on the Midway webpage. Please remember the form closes each day at 1:00 pm and will reopen at 4:00 pm for the next school day. If you are making a permanent change, please contact the teacher.
Thank you for using the new Attendance Notes form in the Quick Links section of the Midway webpage. This form is for submitting excuses for any absence your child may have and takes the place of notes and emails to the teacher.
Our Fall Break is next week (September 20-24). There will be no school. We want everyone to enjoy the time with your families and we send safe wishes for a fabulous Fall Break! We will return to school on Monday, September 27th. In October, we will have Student-led conferences. Look for more information from your teachers soon regarding conference schedules and details.
Thank you so much for your partnership!

“You have brains in your head. You have feet in your shoes. You can steer yourself any direction you choose.”
During the month of September, Midway students will learn more about being proactive and our circle of influence. Our Circle of Control is the area of our lives that we have direct control over—our attitudes, relationships, and decisions. Midway Leaders who are proactive focus on their Circle of Control to positively affect change in their Circle of No Control.

News from Nurse Berry
Thank you to all the parents who have supplied paperwork regarding their child’s health condition, and medication if applicable. If your child has a health condition and you need an action plan please let me know. As a reminder, you can always keep medication in the clinic to help your child be more comfortable at school, things like Tylenol and cough drops can help avoid telephone calls home. However, only parents can bring medication to the clinic, children cannot carry medicine to school.
If your child has an exposure to Covid 19 please reach out to me in regard quarantine guidelines so we can keep the attendance updated. Also, there is a link on my webpage to Forsyth County Covid 19 resources.
Encourage your students to build healthy habits by eating well, sleeping enough and washing hands frequently to avoid getting sick. With Covid 19 this year it is even more important to obtain the flu shot for your child. The flu shot are available now thru most primary care doctors! There will still be the annual community annual flu clinic held in October, more information will follow. . As always, if your child has a communicable disease, please notify the teacher and nurse.
Visit the Midway Elementary website, click Student Services then School Nurse for useful information about illness, Covid 19, and school health policies.

Technology Information
Parents have an important role in online safely as well. At Forsyth County Schools, we value the rich learning experiences that technology brings to our classrooms. We believe that our students must be taught how to use online resources responsibly. With parents and guardians as our partners, we can help our students to gain skills, understanding, and mind-sets that will enable them to be responsible and safe in digital environments. Please follow this link for more information on how Forsyth County and parents can help their students stay safe in a digital world.
