NO SCHOOL on MONDAY! Martin Luther King, Jr. Day
Did Martin Luther King, Jr's Dream Come true?
To go along with this mini unit we have started enjoying the chapter book, Esperanza Rising. We are reading the book in class, but students may also be assigned some reading at home. Feel free to read along with us!
CAP Book Club
Our class will also be sharing information from the book on their blogs so feel free to grab a copy of the book and read along with us!
Notability ~ Our New Favorite App
The great thing about this app is that it also allow students to download pdf files from Schoology, open them in the app, and then use writing tools to complete them. We were having difficulty opening graphic organizers and other worksheets that needed to be completed making it hard to go paperless. With Notability, students can download the files, complete them, and then it integrates with Schoology so the students can then upload to submit to the assignment. This app is a wonderful tool to help us utilize our 1:1 iPads!
Notability is also used in the middle and high school so they will also have experience to make the transition even easier.
If your child has an iPad at home you may want to see about purchasing Notability ($5.99) on the device as some of our common organizers like the vocabulary web and literature web can be found in the resources on Schoology. They could then choose to submit digitally rather than completing a paper.
Schoology, the Subsitute Teacher
As a teacher, it was nice because I could make sure the information was presented how I wanted and in a format the students were used to. No fluff substitute plans, but learning as usual!
My goal is to utilize Schoology as much as possible so that I can begin to personalize instruction. Of course, I don't want to discount the importance of our class discussions, group and partner work either so I will be including those opportunities as well.
Ask your child to show you how the courses are organized on Schoology so you can see the different concepts they are learning and the assignments they are completing.
Unfortunately, now I need to get in there and spend some time grading all the submissions! My goal is to have everything that has been submitted in Schoology graded over the weekend. You can see all your students grades by logging into their account. Some of the grades will then be synced with eschool so they will be counted on the report card.
