Teacher Led Micro PD Sign-Up

Teacher Led Micro Professional Development Session Leader Sign Up

As part of our January Professional Development we will have a series of teacher led micro pd sessions. These sessions can be either 20 or 40 minutes in length and will give us an opportunity to share with one another. Some ideas for micro pd sessions could be centered around technology skills, best practices in teaching, teaching resources, ways to balance work/life in a positive way, classroom management ideas, ideas to engage students. etc. Teachers will be given an opportunity to choose the micro sessions they want to attend and teachers who present will also be given opportunities to attend other micro sessions. We encourage you to share your ideas with other teachers! We need your help! Would you be willing to lead a micro pd session?

Pep Rally Dates

On Friday, Dec 16 we will have a pep rally for all grades at Brooks Gym. That is the last day prior to Christmas break, a half-day. The pep rally will be 10:30-11:30am.

  • K-5, please leave University School to go to Brooks at 10:15am. Please sit in the bleachers closest to the door so that you can be the first to leave. K-5 should leave the pep rally around 11:20am to get back to school for dismissal.
  • 6-8, please leave University School to go to Brooks at 10:20am. Please sit in the middle area of the bleachers.
  • 9-12, please take your students to Brooks at 10:20am. Sit in the bleachers furthest away from the door we enter.
  • If there aren’t enough seats in the lower pull-out bleachers for your class, use the upper seats. All students should be seated on the hone side (opposite team benches).
  • All classes should sit together, with teachers close by to help monitor behavior.
  • We will be on a shortened-class schedule that day. Dr. Day will send out that schedule at a later time.

Two more days to keep on your radar: mini pep rallies from noon-12:30 for high school only. All students at lunch AND study halls should attend. These will be in the school gym. All students will eat lunch at 12:30. These dates are Dec 2 & Jan. date TBD.

Computer Science Endorsement Pathway Now Open

With the passage of Chapter 979 of the Public Acts of 2022 by unanimous vote of the Tennessee General Assembly, all Local Education Agencies (LEA) and public charter schools are required to provide K-12 students with grade-level appropriate computer science education. Beginning in the 2024-25 school year, computer science (CS) will be embedded in grades K-5; middle school students will be required to take CS for one grading period during their 6th, 7th, or 8th grade year; and high school students will take CS as a graduation requirement.

To ensure teachers are properly trained and endorsed to deliver CS courses in middle and high school, the Computer Science Endorsement Pathway (CSEP) has been created. CSEP provides teachers with a no-cost route to computer science endorsement. The endorsement pathway contains six self-paced modules that allow teachers to demonstrate their knowledge and skills of the CS standards by embedding these practices into their current instruction. Teachers who completed Code.org training will only be required to take three of the six modules.

Interested teachers can sign up for the Computer Science Endorsement Pathway using the following link.
