LIFEGUARD SHOUT-OUT!
Lifeguarding is a challenging and important job. Benefits include improved self-discipline, better decision making skills, increased leadership opportunities, development of public relations, customer service and conflict resolution. An important personal benefit of a successful lifeguard is the satisfaction of knowing that a lifeguard's actions can save a life.
This month, we're handing out HIGH-FIVES to Kellen Eagle, who consistently goes above and beyond the expectations of the job. Whether Kellen is assisting with a lifeguard course, chatting with young swimmers about pool guidelines - helping to keep patrons safe, or volunteer coaching for the Youth Basketball Program, he's professional, dependable and darn pleasant.
Kellen, a WHS Senior, grew up in Wrangell and loves the community! He likes being outdoors - hunting, fishing or hiking. He enjoys being a lifeguard because of the rewarding aspects of the job and the great interactions he has with the community.
Heck yes, Kellen!

Community Center Gym
Living in Southeast Alaska has its pros, sprinkled with a few cons - like dark and rainy days! That said, we still need to move. We're hoping that by opening the Community Center Gym for an hour each week, we will help to encourage adults to move their bodies!
Regular physical activity is important to overall health, and walking is an excellent way to be active. Adults who engage in regular physical activity, such as brisk walking, are at lower risk of heart disease and stroke, type 2 diabetes, breast and colon cancers, and depressed mood.
