From the Principal's Desk...
“Here I am. You called me.”
Dear Parents and Guardians,
We made it through our first five-day in person week since early March. Thank you for your support and cooperation with all of our protocols. As we continue this week, it is even more important that we all remain steadfast in our attention to the needed health and safety practices.
We currently have 30 students in quarantine and only one staff member. More students will be returning as this week progresses. Our school nurse, Mrs. Elise Hochhausler RN, has been an incredible resource in enabling us to stay on top of our COVID concerns. Please continue to contact her at ehochhausler@stjohnsdrschool.org if you have questions or concerns.
As you know, there is an increased focus on keeping schools open and in person. The roll out of the vaccine has begun to prioritize teachers and school staff in order to accomplish this. We do not yet know what the timeline will be for St. John the Baptist School, but we have been asked to submit the number of school and parish personnel who could possibly be vaccinated. I believe that this is a hopeful sign and a critically important step in keeping our school open and in person.
This Sunday is the Second Sunday in Ordinary Time. In the first reading (1 SM 3: 3b-10), we hear the story of the call of Samuel. “The LORD called Samuel again, for the third time. Getting up and going to Eli, he said, “Here I am. You called me.” Then Eli understood that the LORD was calling the youth. So he said to Samuel, “Go to sleep, and if you are called, reply, Speak, LORD, for your servant is listening.” Samuel did not expect God to call him. Even the prophet Eli did not expect God to call Samuel.
During this challenging time, are we listening for God to call us? In the midst of all of the concerns and worries that we have, are we open to what God has in store for us? May we choose to live in such a way that our prayer may include Samuel’s response, “Here I am. You called me.”
Peace,
Dan Minelli

Covid Quarantine Policy
Dear Parents and Guardians,
We recognize that there has been some public communication regarding the criteria for quarantining students based upon close contact tracing. We understand that this has created confusion for some families.
We have chosen to continue with our protocols in the same way that we have since school began. We have received the full support of the Hamilton County Health Department for our practice.
We have had no COVID spread within our school nor have we had any from school to home. This has been our primary goal as we have stated on numerous occasions. The health and safety of our students, faculty, staff and families is our first and most important concern.
We recognize that everyone may not agree with our policy. However, until such time as we have been able to have our faculty and staff vaccinated, and we see a reasonable decline in the number of presumed and positive cases within our school community, we will continue to quarantine as we have.
Sincerely,
Daniel A. Minelli, principal
Elise Hochhausler RN, school nurse
