From the Explore Office:
Your ELP and Explore Liaisons are working together to recruit students who qualify for ELP services. The conversation I brought to Job Alike is specifically about the subgroup of ELP students who have been identified as two or more years behind in reading AND who are showing up on the qualifying ELP reports.
For the Super ELP students who have not enrolled in Explore by the time the MAP testing window closes, we are asking that the classroom teacher arrange a conference with the parent(s). Following are two resource documents for use during these conferences. They are as follows:
Spring Conference Agenda for Teachers
This is an agenda that will serve as a prompt for teachers, and even provides language used in ELP letters and in district policy.
Explore Academic Assistance Waiver
We will ask parents to sign this document if they still opt out of Explore at the end of the conference.
Teachers will collect any Explore Academic Assistance Waivers they obtain during conferences, and submit them to you. After the conclusion of the school year, but before the start of Explore (June 3rd), we would ask that you re-connect with these parents to see if they have had a change of heart about Explore and/or if you can help answer any questions they may have.
Below are a few clarifying points for you:
· This conference would apply to ELL students who are included on the report as performing two or more grade levels behind.
· If you know a student is being withdrawn from the SPS at the end of the school year it would still be important that the parent understands the current reality of their child’s reading level. Go ahead and have the parent fill out (or fill one out for them) the Explore Academic Assistance Waiver noting that the student is leaving the district.
· You do not need to have a parent conference or collect an Explore Academic Assistance Waiver on a student who has an IEP for reading.
Thank you for your team’s work on getting these most struggling readers engaged during Explore. Please reach out with any questions or concerns you might have. J, Mike, Hannah, and I will be working together to support all of you during this time.
Kate, Misty and I will provide you a list of students who meet the criteria for the conferences. Thank you!
Tomorrow Reminder: Friday, April 19th Professional Learning Day
Your To-Do List:
Build next year class lists: This looks like you making a copy of the class link listed, and as grade level team, creating 4 classes for the following year that are balanced. Please follow the instructions on the form (make sure you list the students last name first-and put them in alphabetical order).
Supply lists done-next year: Edit the lists here...this will be posted on the website soon!
Shine of the Year selected: For the Shine of the Year, we will order a trophy for each student, which requires us to know soon who that student will be. Also, you may want to go ahead and fill in your 4th Quarter students so Bri can work on certificates.
Recess Schedule Survey: 1 representative from each grade level needs to complete this form.
Committees list: Please make sure you are serving on at least 1, committee for next year.
Sherwood PL Calendar: Please print, sign and put in my mailbox. I am required to turn these in.
Finalize Growth Plans-EOY reflect: Go into your growth plan and update all EOY boxes, and give yourself an end of the year score based on growth this year on each indicator. Once you are finished, please enter your PIN (most are the last 4 of your social security number).

FYI-This went out to principals this week on Device Collection
As we enter fourth quarter the Information Technology and Blended Learning departments are preparing for collection of student Chromebooks and classroom iPads. Below is an overview of the anticipated process for this year. More communication will be coming out to leaders and teachers as we wrap the school year.
· Each school will select their day of collection. A few expectations for selecting a collection date.
o Chromebooks cannot be used after collection. This ensures correct repair information is collected.
o Students should continue taking Chromebooks home until the collection date for charging. Makeshift charging solutions at sites create safety hazards and are not permitted.
o Repairs will continue until the next to last day of the school year.
· Year two IGNiTE school devices will be used for Explore.
o A list of schools by cohort year can be found here.
o Year two schools will remove the student tag on the bottom of the Chromebooks.
o Year one and three schools will not remove the student tag and will store their Chromebooks. These devices will not be used for Explore and distributed back to the same students in the fall.
o Year one and three schools will store their devices in a specific location.
o Year two devices will be replaced with new devices next year as part of the refresh cycle.
· Chromebooks will be collected in classrooms (with limited exceptions noted below) and teachers provided with a collection website.
o The website will have the serial number of the Chromebook assigned to each student.
o Teachers will provide basic information regarding Chromebook damage, if applicable.
o Graduating seniors will have their devices collected in the library.
o Non-HP chargers will not be accepted for collection and should be sent home with the student if submitted for collection.
o Headphones provided to elementary students will go home with the students at the end of the year.
· Kajeets will be collected through the libraries.
o Elementary schools will collect Kajeets the week prior to their collection date. These devices may be picked up from sites by information technology to be used during Explore.
o Middle and high schools will collect Kajeets up to their collection date. These may also be collected by information technology but may not be picked up until after the start of Explore.
· Bins will be provided for collection a week prior to the school’s collection date.
o Two green bins and three blue bins will be provided for each classroom.
o The number of bins provided will be created from eSchool and verified with your Blended Learning Specialist.
· Blended learning specialists will work with you to provide training prior to collection on how to the use the website and what to expect during collection.
o The end of year planning will include identifying who will collect Chromebooks if students are absent on the day of collection and after school is out.
A successful collection will be key to a successful start of Explore. Please let me know if you have any questions. Thank you!
