7th Grade

Our Swann seventh graders are learning about WWII in Social Studies and genetics in Science. They are reading mystery texts in ELA and practicing expressions, equations, and inequalities in Math.

8th Grade

Our Swann eighth graders are learning about the Great Depression and WWII in Social Studies and molecular chemistry in Science. They are reading science fiction texts in ELA and exploring predictions and data in Math.

Be sure to ask your Swann Lion to tell you more about what they are doing in their classes!

Noticias de Spanish Immersion

Mr. Alvarez's 7th graders are studying poetry. In one lesson, they studied their choice of three love poems. Students read either "Recuerdas" by Manuel Magallanes Moure, "Poema XX" by Pablo Neruda, or "Never More" by Paul Verlaine. Click the links to read the poems and see if you can identify the who, what, when, where, and why of the poets' love story. In another lesson, they examined the figurative language in a selection on poetry.

Stories from STEM

Ms. Thompson's students practiced coding by designing a scene for their Ozobots to navigate. Students wrote stories to accompany their scenes--just like video game designers do when they code games. The group in the photo created a "Wizard of Ozo" scene and story for their Ozobots, complete with Ozobot costumes.

Meet Our Staff

Ms. Moore teaches 8th grade science. She has degrees in Science in Industrial Technology from Elizabeth City State and in Technology Management from NC A&T. She is currently attending UNCG for School Administration. She loves to sing and dance, and she is part of her church gospel choir. She coaches Swann's volleyball team, and she enjoys watching videos of HBCU marching bands. She's never been on an airplane, but it's on her bucket list to fly somewhere!

Swann Lions Athletics

Our baseball and softball teams had their first games this week. The softball team was victorious against Mendenhall 29 to 12. The baseball team fought hard, but lost 4 to 14. Good luck to all the teams with games and meets next week!

Volunteer Opportunities

Roar Store Donations

Please help us reward students who are consistently on time to class and meet school-wide expectations by supplying our Roar Store! Every morning, students who have earned Den Dollars for their positive behaviors can shop in the Roar Store. Single-serve bags of Takis, chips, and Hot Cheetos, and Gatorade are especially popular! We would also love Sonic or Wendy's gift cards to use for providing special rewards. Contact Dr. Bocci if you have questions at
