Spelling List-study the words
Math Word Problems- cut and glue problems into the math homework spiral and solve one each night
Reading Log- record books read at home and respond to reading by writing a sentence about the book

You can use the Spelling Activities sent home in the parent email the first week to study these words if you choose to. Please remember that it is important for the students to be able to apply the use of these words in their writing as well.

Important Dates and Upcoming Events
Starting the Week of September 28th we will begin having our PLC time every other Thursday morning from 8:00-8:50. This will be a more consistent schedule for everyone, and the kids will be working with the specials teachers during that time.

Monday, October 12th- Parent Conference Day- Please sign up for a conference with your child's teacher using the Sign Up Genius email. The students will not be at school this day.

Thursday, October 15th- Picture Retakes, Smashburger Spirit Night
Picture retakes are next Thursday, October 15th. If your child was absent on picture day or new to Nichols they will be taking a picture on the 15th. Picture packages/proofs went home today with all students who were here on picture day. If you want your child to have retakes on the 15th please fill out the form in the picture envelope and return it along with the picture package to your child’s teacher.
Thursday, October 15th is also PTA Spirit Night at Smashburger. Bring the flyer that was sent home in your child’s folder and Nichols receive $1 for every entrée purchased.

Dear Interested Destination Imagination Parents,
If you were unable to attend the first informational Destination Imagination (D.I.) meeting last week, Ms. Hand will be offering a second “Meet and Greet” informational meeting this coming Wednesday, October 7th at 4:00pm in the art room. Come find out more about the program, how to start a team, and get a glimpse of the different team challenges for 2015-2016.
If you would like to be contacted by other interested D.I. parents who may be willing to coach a team, please fill out the Google document, by clicking on the link below.
You can also stop by the Art Room any time during Parent/ Teacher Conference day, October 12th, to get more information and view a list of students who are wanting to form a D.I. team.

Here are the definitions of words that we have been covering in science.
1. classify: to put things in groups by the way they are alike
2. physical properties: things about an object that can be seen, heard, tasted, smelled, or felt
3. matter: anything that takes up space and has mass
4. mass: the amount of matter an object has
5. temperature: how hot or cold something is
6. texture: how rough or smooth something is
7. solid: material that can be piled up
8. liquid: material that can flow and drip
9. flexibility: the ability to bend
Communicate/Justify/Explain your Thinking- Explaining the steps that you took to solve the problems in words. Think about all of the steps that you took and write them out and use math vocabulary.
Comparing- Looking at the place value of two or more numbers to compare them. You use words and/or symbols such as <, >, =, more/greater than, less/fewer than, and equal/same as.
