Boys Basketball Defeats Spain Park In Front of Big Crowd
A huge crowd poured into Bryant Bank Arena Friday night as the Huskies hosted Spain Park. Coach Jeff Baker's team defeated the Jaguars 66-60 in the Area contest. Cameron Glover and Jacolby Thomas made key free throws down the stretch to seal the victory. Baker thanked the HTHS Dogpound after the game for their impact throughout the night.
The first quarter was filled with back and forth action. Colin Glover scored seven points in the opening quarter as the Huskies took a 18-15 lead. The Huskies extended the lead in the second quarter behind a strong quarter from Brandan Copeland. The score at halftime was 36-29.
Spain Park came out of the locker room on fire and quickly tied the game. The Huskies led by just two points with seconds to go in the quarter. HT grabbed a rebound and passed the ball forward to Cameron Glover. The HT guard launched a long three pointer at the buzzer that hit nothing at the bottom of the net. The Huskies had a five point lead and the momentum.
Hewitt-Trussville would extend the lead in the final quarter and led by nine point with just over two minutes left. The Jaguars would battle back again and closed the gap to just two points with under a minute left. The Huskies would ice the game with key free throws and stingy defense.
