PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE
Dear Decatur High School Community,
I hope we can all embrace Black History Month and work toward the mission of Black History period! I saw that on a shirt yesterday from a person committed to the work, and I greatly admire and appreciate it.
We have some community bonding events upcoming over the next few weeks. Please take the time to check the school calendar and participate in something at the school during February. This can be a wonderful opportunity to connect with your high schooler and enjoy learning together. Thank you for the feedback on my message last week. I plan on reaching out to those parents early next week.
Sincerely,
Duane Sprull
Interim Principal, DHS
IDEA Parent Survey
Survey for parents of students who receive IEP services
The IDEA Parent Survey will be open from January 17, 2023 – May 31, 2023.
This survey helps the state to determine parents’ perception of the success of parent engagement between them and schools. Each state is required to conduct a parent survey collection process to measure parent/family perceptions. The information is gathered as a component of the State Performance Plan, Indicator 8: Percent of parents with a student receiving special education services who report that schools facilitated parent involvement as a means of improving results for children with disabilities. The data collected is reported as a percentage of parental involvement in the Annual Performance Report for each district. Individual answers are kept confidential. Each response will be coded by a number – not a name.

Tripod Survey
Dear Parents,
We will administer the Tripod Survey right after Winter Break. The Tripod student surveys gather data from students about themselves, their classrooms, and their schools. Classroom-level measures offer insight into teaching effectiveness, peer dynamics, student engagement, and the diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) culture. The survey takes approximately 20 minutes to complete. You can review the Tripod Survey questions and the Tripod DEI questions at the links provided. All student survey data is anonymous and self-reported. The Protection of Pupil Rights Amendment (PPRA) gives you the right to opt your child out of participating in the survey. The survey will be given to all students. If you do NOT wish for your child to participate in the Tripod Survey, please complete this google form by February 3rd to opt out.

COMMUNITY PARTNER ANNOUNCEMENTS & UPDATES
THIS SATURDAY: Mead Road Mardi Gras Parade is THIS Saturday, February 4th starting at 1pm at F.AVE. Every CSD school is invited to march in the parade that has raised more than $30K for music and theatre grants! Let’s gather as a community to carry on this fun homegrown tradition that celebrates music and creativity! As a reminder, this is a “walk or roll only” parade, no motorized vehicles allowed (we’re keeping it old school!) Laissez les bons temps rouler!
At the beginning of each month, our BHMS snack pantry and weekend backpack programs are depleted and need to be replenished. You can help by donating directly to them using these links:
Beacon Hill Middle Snack Program: /a.co/d0HJHTr
Weekend Backpack Program: https://a.co/6Etc74W
We are also in need of a snacks coordinator/committee to organize and deliver the snacks once per month. This would be a fun, easy way for a couple of friends to volunteer together for a couple of hours each month. For more information, please contact marie@decatureducationfoundation.org.
IN MARCH: Registration is for the 21st Annual Tour deCatur is NOW OPEN at www.tourdecatur.com. Decatur’s favorite 5K and one-mile fun run is scheduled for Saturday March 11th.
