Fourth Grade Parkside Elementary
December 1st - 8th, 2016
Literacy/Reading
4th
We spent some time this week practicing summarizing a passage about the Trail of Tears. Please spend some time talking to your child about the pipeline and the problems it is causing the Native Americans. Current events make our history books come alive!
Next week, we will spend some time learning about Blackbeard and his ties to North Carolina.
Math
Shapes come in all sizes including triangles, quadrilaterals and regular polygons. Please check the red spiral notebook for tips on helping with geometry.
Science
Did you know that they have discovered a "woolly mammoth" baby fully preserved in the Arctic?! Quite a discovery....
There are many types of fossils from cast to mold to fossilized bones. We will be making a "fossil dig" with dinosaur parts and discovering what may have happened to the dinosaurs.
Our next unit will be on volcanoes, earthquakes, weathering/erosion and then on to rocks and minerals.
Kids Korner Gift Shop
In Thursday folders, you should have received a green flyer with information about the Kids Korner Gift Shoppe. We are excited to share this opportunity with you! Students will have the opportunity to shop for their loved ones the week of December 12-16th. The schedule for this will be similar to the Book Fair schedule and MANY volunteers are needed. The items in the shop range from less than $1.00-$5.00. Once students shop, their items will be gift wrapped for them. Any proceeds from this sale will benefit the 4/5 overnight filed trips.
